Bones About Town: All day through Oct. 24 in downtown Grand Haven. Some might view Grand Haven as a quiet lakeshore town in October, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Beware — the town is teeming with skeletons. Join the Grand Haven area at Bones About Town, where over 150 five-foot-tall decorated skeletons will be displayed throughout the community. This culminates in a lively Fall Festival on the streets of downtown and Centertown Grand Haven on Oct. 25. Skeletons will be judged by popular vote in three categories: originality, funniest and spookiest. Voting will be open daily until noon on Oct. 24. 

Holland Farmers Market: 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at Holland Civic Center Place, 150 W. Eighth St., Holland. The Holland Farmers Market is located at the Eighth Street Market Place in downtown Holland and is home to over 75 vendors throughout the season. Local farmers offer freshly picked fruits and vegetables of every variety, beautiful bouquets of flowers and plants for home and garden. A wide variety of baked goods (including breads, pies and cookies), all-natural honey and maple syrup and farm-fresh cheese, eggs and meats are also available, in addition to sweet treats, gourmet specialty foods and much, much more. A food court, featuring a variety of delicious breakfast and lunch options, is also available at the Holland Farmers Market.  

Strawtastic Showdown: 8 a.m.-6 p.m. at Crisp Country Acres, 5888 120th Ave., Holland. You are invited to stroll through the bale display, admiring each fun design. Everyone gets a chance to cast a vote for their favorite bale. The bale with the most votes will earn a fun prize, and the family behind it will receive well-deserved recognition. Be part of the excitement and let your voice be heard in selecting the winning masterpiece.

Corn Maze & Scavenger Hunt: 8 a.m.-6 p.m. at Crisp Country Acres, 5888 120th Ave., Holland. Take a walk through our corn maze and join in the fun of our scavenger hunt. As you navigate the twisting paths, keep your eyes peeled for hidden items scattered throughout the maze. $3.

Felt Mansion Self-Guided Tours: 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at The Felt Estate, 6597 13Eighth Ave., Holland. Explore the restored 1904 Gibson Church, the 1917 Carriage House, as well as the 1928 mansion and grounds. Please park at the wooden pylons or white-chained grassy parking area, and enter the mansion through the front door (pillared entrance on the east side of the mansion) to pay your admission fee, and then explore all three buildings and the grounds at your leisure. Adults: $10; seniors (60+): $8; children 8+: $5; children 7 and younger: free.

Art á Loan 2025: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Saugatuck Center for the Arts, 400 Culver St., Saugatuck. For their 29th year, the Art à Loan program is returning to the Saugatuck Center for the Arts to feature work from Saugatuck Public School students.

Exhibition: "Foundations: A Journey Through the Built Environment": 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at Dekker Huis Museum, 37 E. Main Ave., Zeeland. The Zeeland Historical Society is excited to unveil its newest exhibit, “Foundations: A Journey Through Our Built Environment.” This immersive experience invites visitors to explore how Zeeland’s homes, businesses, roads, and public spaces have evolved, shaping the daily lives of generations past and present. From the first log cabins built by Dutch immigrants in 1847 to the mid-century modern designs of the 20th century, Zeeland’s architecture reflects its unique heritage and growth. The exhibit highlights key moments in the town’s development, including the transition from early corduroy roads to modern highways, the rise of local industries like furniture manufacturing, and the adaptive reuse of historic buildings that continue to define Zeeland’s identity today. Don't Let's Go To The Dogs Tonight: 7-10 p.m. at Knickerbocker Theatre, Holland. "Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight" thrusts us into the tumultuous world of 8-year-old Bobo, whose childhood unfolds on her family's Rhodesian farm, now Zimbabwe, as the Bush War rages to its bitter end. Set against this violent backdrop, and seen through her eyes, we witness the family's desperate attachment to Africa's soil and the deep, festering scars of a war that reshapes both land and soul. Macroinvertebrate Monitoring: 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. at DeGraaf Nature Center, 600 Graafschap Road, Holland. Come help us investigate the health of our area streams by collecting the aquatic macroinvertebrates that live there. These critters give us a general idea of the water quality. Plus, it’s fun and easy to do. We’ll gather, form teams, head out to streams to collect, and then gather again for identification. You can help with collection, identification or both. Lunch will be provided for those who stay for identification. No experience required and all equipment will be provided. Dress appropriately for getting wet and/or muddy. Not all stream locations are universally accessible. The event may be postponed if weather or river conditions are unsafe. Women in Nature - Archery: 6-7:30 p.m. at ODC Archery Range, 5675 142nd Ave., Holland. Women in Nature is a program series designed to motivate women to be healthier, active and passionate about the natural world surrounding them. This archery program will include a quick lesson on how to shoot a bow and arrow, which will be taught by one of our certified women archery instructors. Then participants will have the opportunity to practice for the rest of the evening. Fun 3D targets will be set up, along with normal ring targets. Suggested age range is 12 and up. Knee-high Naturalists: 10-11:30 a.m. at Outdoor Discovery Center, 4214 56th St., Holland. Knee-high Naturalists introduce the wonders of the natural world to young children. Crafts, activities, books, snacks, live animals, and outside exploration will be incorporated into their nature-based learning experience. Parents can drop off their 4- to 6-year-old or stay with the class. Parents or guardians are asked to attend with their 3-year-old to help with bathroom use and transitioning into a group learning environment. Suggested age range is 3-6 years old. Fall Fest 2025: 10 a.m.-10 p.m. in downtown Holland. Fall Fest is back for 2025, and it’s bigger and better than ever before. We’ve got two days packed full of fall-themed activities for the entire family. Downtown Holland’s Fall Fest is the only fall festival in Michigan where you’ll find the nation’s best professional pumpkin carvers (including Food Network alumni) carving the biggest pumpkins you’ve seen. Watch them in action and check out the finished pieces on display all weekend long. Fall Fest is all about family fun. First Friday Herd Meditation: 4-6 p.m. at Red Horse Center for Collaborative Leadership, 6169 122nd Ave., Fennville. Come experience the beauty of nature, the peace of meditation, and the resonance of a herd of horses. Herd Meditations offer peace and quiet, fresh air, and some time to slow things down with a supportive herd of horses. Grand Haven First Friday: 5-8 p.m. in downtown Grand Haven. On the first Friday of each month, downtown Grand Haven offers a fun and lively evening for locals and visitors. Participating shops, restaurants, and bars open their doors with something special in store. 

Film Screening of “Everyday People”: 6-8:30 p.m. at Douglas UCC, 56 Wall St., Douglas. Fire Truck Parade: 7-8 p.m. in downtown Holland. Kick off Fire Safety Week in early October with this family fun event. Watch over 50 fire trucks roll down Eighth Street. Fire trucks will then be on display and safety demonstrations will be given at the Holland Civic Center Place. It will begin at the corner of Eighth Street and Columbia Avenue, then travel down Eighth Street to the Civic Center. After the parade, The Holland Area Fire Prevention Council will present a number of fire safety events at the Civic Center.

The Grand Haven Farmers Market is brought to you by the Chamber of Commerce of Grand Haven, Spring Lake and Ferrysburg, providing farmers and small business owners with an opportunity to sell their fresh, Michigan-grown and/or produced foods directly to customers. Knee-high Naturalists: 10-11:30 a.m. at Outdoor Discovery Center, 4214 56th St., Holland. Knee-high Naturalists introduce the wonders of the natural world to young children. Crafts, activities, books, snacks, live animals, and outside exploration will be incorporated into their nature-based learning experience. Parents can drop off their 4- to 6-year-old or stay with the class. Bones About Town: All day through Oct. 24 in downtown Grand Haven. Some might view Grand Haven as a quiet lakeshore town in October, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Beware — the town is teeming with skeletons. Join the Grand Haven area at Bones About Town, where over 150 five-foot-tall decorated skeletons will be displayed throughout the community. This culminates in a lively Fall Festival on the streets of downtown and Centertown Grand Haven on Oct. 25. Douglas Halloween Parade for Adults: 10 p.m. at 130 W. Center St., Douglas. For years, our Halloween parade has grown into one of the biggest events of the year, drawing thousands of spectators from all around the country. If you’re interested in being more than a spectator, get into the lineup and strut your stuff down the parade route. Our giant parade mascot, The Pumpkin King, rises from the ashes at 10 p.m. to get the whole thing rolling.
