American Girl Adventure: 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at Holland Museum, 31 W. 10th St., Holland. Step into the world of American Girl at the Holland Museum. Start your visit by viewing a special display in Spark!Lab, highlighting 40 years of American Girl. Then, in the same space, enjoy American Girl-themed crafts and activities celebrating the beloved dolls that made history exciting for generations.

SABAI DEE: Celebrating Holland’s Laotian Community: 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at Holland Museum, 31 W. 10th St., Holland. After the turmoil of the Vietnam War and the Secret War in Laos, many Laotian families sought safety in the United States. In the late 1970s and 1980s, some resettled in Holland, bringing their traditions, resilience, and hopes for the future. Sabai Dee(“Hello”) honors these immigrants, refugees, their children, and the lives they built here. Through personal narratives, photographs, and artifacts, the exhibit explores how Holland’s Laotian community has faced challenges, preserved its heritage, and established deep roots that continue to enrich the city today. In this workshop, students will explore the human form through gesture, proportion, and expression while strengthening their observational drawing skills. Each session will include short and long poses with live models, offering a supportive space to experiment and build confidence. Hosted at 137 Center Street in downtown Douglas, the Ox-Bow House Series offers intimate, community-centered workshops in dry media and small crafts. Knee-high Naturalists: 10-11:30 a.m. at Outdoor Discovery Center, 4214 56th St., Holland. Knee-high naturalists introduce the wonders of the natural world to young children. Crafts, activities, books, snacks, live animals, and outside exploration will be incorporated into their nature-based learning experience. Parents can drop off their 4- to 6-year-old or stay with the class. Parents or guardians are asked to attend with their 3-year-old to help with bathroom use and transitioning into a group learning environment. Suggested age range is 3-6 years old. Guardians drop children off or stay with the class. Registration is required. Register and pay for attending children only (except infants). Fee: $10 per child, $5 for members.

Radar Hill Hiking Club Wear Red Hike: 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Crow's Nest Trail, 1045 Park St., Saugatuck. Enjoy a hike through Crow’s Nest Trail. The Radar Hill Hiking Club, launched in early 2021, is a service of RiverWood Council. It is an informal group whose goal is to promote the use of trails in the greater Saugatuck-Douglas area. Holland on Ice: 4-10 p.m. in downtown Holland. The coolest event on the Lakeshore returns to downtown Holland this February. Witness the nation’s best professional ice carvers at work as they transform over 10,000 pounds of ice into incredible works of art as part of LG Energy Solution’s Holland on Ice. During this two-day winter festival, you can play frozen games made out ice, pose for photos with interactive ice sculptures, and stroll throughout Downtown Holland to check out the ice sculptures on display. All sculptures will remain on display as long as the weather permits. And don’t miss the third annual Snowmelt 5K, hosted in partnership with Holland Recreation, a fun run through downtown Holland’s heated sidewalks.

Superb Owl Prowl: 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Farview Park, 6257 138th Ave., Saugatuck. Hike the trails of Laketown Township’s Farview Park in search of resident and migratory owls. The group will try to call in Eastern Screech, Barred, and Great Horned Owls as they hike. Flashlights are welcome. Dress for the weather. Suggested for ages 6 and up. Guardians stay with the class. Museum on Tap: Beer, Cider, and Wine Tasting: 7-9 p.m. at Holland Museum, 31 W. 10th St., Holland. Museum on Tap a fun-filled evening of beer, cider, and wine tasting. Please be aware that the park gate closes automatically at 10 p.m. sharp; visitors must arrive before then to enter the park. Visible night sky objects: planets, the Moon, deep-sky objects like galaxies, star clusters and planetary nebulae.

Saturday, February 7

Holland on Ice - Snowmelt 5K: 8-10 a.m. at 150 W. Eighth St., Holland. Join downtown Holland and Holland Parks & Recreation for a 5K through beautiful downtown Holland. The entire route will take advantage of Holland's unique snowmelt system, allowing runners and walkers to enjoy an obstacle and hazard-free course, even in the middle of winter. Racers will receive a finisher medal. This 5K run/walk is part of downtown Holland's annual Holland on Ice festival, so racers can stick around downtown Holland all weekend to take in the live ice carving, great sales, and winter-themed food and drink specials at local restaurants. The Kids' Mini Melt will also take place, giving even the youngest runners a chance to participate in all the fun.

Colonial Chocolate Making: 10 a.m.-noon at Holland Area Arts Council, 150 E. Eighth St., Holland. This class focuses on how chocolate was crafted and consumed in the 18th century. Discover what chocolate is made from, where the raw material was sourced, and why it was important to American colonists. In this fun session, you will learn the process of making chocolate from “Bean to Cream,” including tasting. $40.

Free Family Art Drop-In: 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Holland Area Arts Council, 150 E. Eighth Street, Holland. The first Saturday of every month brings hands-on art adventures for all ages. Netherlands “Klok” Runs at Noon: Noon at Holland Museum, 31 W. 10th St., Holland. See the wonderful moving parts of the Netherlands “Klok” from the 1939 World’s Fair. The Klok runs on the first Saturday of every month at noon for one minute. (Included with Holland Museum admission)

Football Tailgate in Douglas: Noon-5 p.m. in downtown Douglas. Cheer on your favorite team with small-town charm at the Football Tailgate in Douglas, where fans gather for festive fun, friendly competition, and plenty of local flavor. After the turmoil of the Vietnam War and the Secret War in Laos, many Laotian families sought safety in the United States. In the late 1970s and 1980s, some resettled in Holland, bringing their traditions, resilience, and hopes for the future, Sabai Dee (“Hello”) honors these immigrants, refugees, their children, and the lives they built here. Knee-high Naturalists: 10-11:30 a.m. at Dragonflies Discovery Preschool, 30 152nd Ave, Holland. Knee-high naturalists introduce the wonders of the natural world to young children.
