For one day only, Saunaty and Purely Nomadic Sauna Co are pulling three saunas onto the frozen shoreline … and bringing actual life and energy back to Lake Michigan’s edge. Radar Hill Hiking Club Hike: 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Saugatuck Dunes State Park, 6575 138th Ave., Holland. Enjoy a first-day hike through the Saugatuck Dunes State Park. For this hike, meet in the parking lot of the park. There will be a two-mile walk on the North Trail. Bring grippy footwear if icy, and consider trekking poles. The Radar Hill Hiking Club, launched in early 2021, is a service of RiverWood Council. It is an informal group whose goal is to promote the use of trails in the greater Saugatuck-Douglas area. Sponsoring hikes and helping to maintain trails.
Hair of the Dog Fun Run: 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at Spectators, 6432 Blue Star Highway, Saugatuck. A fun run/walk with friends while raising money for the Saugatuck Education Association. All proceeds will go to scholarships for kids in pre-school through 12th grade. All participants will receive a commemorative pint glass before the run. Also, participants will receive a free beer or root beer after the run and your choice of a free bowl of chili: red, white chicken, or vegetarian. The run/walk starts and finishes at Spectators Sports Bar & Grill in Saugatuck, where there will be a fire pit to warm your heart and spirit after the run. Knee-high Naturalists: 10-11:30 a.m. at Dragonflies Discovery Preschool, 30 152nd Ave., Holland. Knee-high naturalists introduce the wonders of the natural world to young children. Crafts, activities, books, snacks, live animals, and outside exploration will be incorporated into their nature-based learning experience. Parents can drop off their 4- to 6-year-old or stay with the class. Parents or guardians are asked to attend with their 3-year-old to help with bathroom use and transitioning into a group learning environment. Suggested age range is 3-6 years old. Guardians drop children off or stay with the class. Registration is required. Register and pay for attending children only (except infants). Fee: $10 per child, $5 for members.

Felt Mansion Candlelight Guided Tours: 5-8 p.m. at The Felt Estate, 6597 138th Ave., Holland. Come to the evening tours of the Felt Mansion by (or partly by) candlelight or soft ambient lighting, often enhanced by holiday lighting and decorations. The mood is more atmospheric than a standard daytime tour — you see the mansion in a more intimate, glowing light, which highlights architectural and decorative details in a different way. As a guided tour, a docent or guide leads visitors through the spaces, providing narration, historical background, stories, and details you might miss on your own.

Public Star Gazing: 8-10 p.m. at Hemlock Crossing, 8115 West Olive Road, West Olive. The observatory is open from 8-11 p.m. (weather and clear sky permitting). There are no entry fees. Please be aware that the park gate closes automatically at 10 p.m. sharp, therefore visitors must arrive before then to enter the park. Visible night sky objects: planets, the moon, deep sky objects like galaxies, star clusters and planetary nebulae.

Hikers will explore the trails of Bysterveld County Park in search of interesting animals and plants while walking in wooden, Ojibwa-style snowshoes. The snowshoes are ideal for people ages 8 and up. Participants are welcome to wear their own snowshoes and bring a sled for little ones to be pulled while hiking. Be prepared to be outside the entire time hiking. At least 4 inches of snow base is required in order for the loaner snowshoes to be available to the group. If there is not enough snow, we will still be leading a winter walk. All ages welcome.
