HUDSONVILLE — Community members will have an opportunity to step into waders and pull debris from local waterways during the upcoming Rush Creek Cleanup Day, organized by the Ottawa County Water Resources Commissioner’s Office.

Scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12, the community initiative aims to improve water quality and restore the natural habitat along Rush Creek. Volunteers will gather at Sunrise Park, at 2600 Springdale St. in Hudsonville, working from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to remove accumulated trash and obstructions from the stream.

Mobilizing local environmental stewardship

The annual effort targets a critical tributary in Ottawa County, encouraging residents to take a direct hand in watershed conservation. Organizers will equip participants with necessary supplies, including trash pokers, grabbers, buckets, and personal protective equipment such as gloves, insect repellent, and sunscreen.

While organizers encourage attendees to wear their own muck boots, waders, or hip boots, extra waders will be made available on-site for those navigating deeper sections of the creek.

Participants will receive complimentary lunch and beverages, along with an official volunteer appreciation T-shirt. To secure a shirt in the requested size, volunteers must complete advance registration by Wednesday, Sept. 9.
