OTTAWA COUNTY — With the onset of June, Ottawa County communities are preparing to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community with annual Pride festivals.
Pride festivals are vibrant community gatherings that celebrate LGBTQIA+ identity, culture and achievements while advocating for equal rights and visibility. They typically feature a mix of parades, live musical performances, drag shows, educational workshops and vendor booths.
Most festivals take place annually in June to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall Riots in New York City, which served as a pivotal turning point for the modern LGBTQIA+ rights movement.
