HOLLAND TWP. — A Louisiana man is facing multiple firearm-related charges after allegedly firing several shots through the door of his camper trailer at a contractor who knocked on the door to discuss payment for maintenance work, authorities said.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:20 p.m. on Oct. 28, 2026, at Drew's Country Campground, 12850 Ransom St., in Holland Township.

According to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, the victim — a contractor hired to perform maintenance on the camper — knocked on the door while the occupant was inside. Investigators noted that the resident was aware the work was being carried out. However, when the contractor knocked to address payment, the occupant allegedly opened fire through the camper door without warning or an apparent motive, discharging approximately four rounds.

The contractor was not struck by the gunfire and was able to flee the scene safely to call 911.

Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies, along with members of the Critical Response Team and crisis negotiators, responded to the campground. Law enforcement officers evacuated nearby residents, cordoned off local traffic, and attempted to establish contact with the suspect inside the trailer.

The suspect has been identified as 45-year-old Lance Wade Wilson of DeRidder, Louisiana, who had been temporarily residing at the campground.
