A year into operation of Muskegon’s The Stage at The Corner, venue event coordinator and technical director concedes that owners are “still trying to figure out what exactly sticks” when it comes to entertainment events.
But what’s clear is that Muskegon’s newest venue has unlimited potential — a renovated church with a capacity of 350 to 370 people, two separate performance areas, and “great acoustics, lighting, sound and a projector screen for films.”
Oh, and a working pipe organ that was put into dynamic use for Halloween, when keyboardist Colin Blassingame accompanied the 1962 cult horror classic, “Carnival of Souls.”

Already, the unique venue constructed in 1930 has hosted alternative, punk, indie, hardcore, metal and rap concerts, comedy performances, movie screenings and theater and musical productions since hosting its first show in September 2024.
“We’ve had performances of all sorts on the stage — everything from musical and dramatic theater to film screenings and comedy shows. We do live music concerts not only on the stage but also in the lobby as well, and have featured genres as varied as rap, rock and singer-songwriter,” said manager Alex Bernhardt.
“I’d say we specialize in punk, hardcore, metal, emo, indie and alternative rock in general because I have the most background in booking shows around those genres.”

Later this month, The Stage at the Corner hosts Rapid Fire Improv on Nov. 14, youth performances of “The Wizard of Oz” on Nov. 15, the “Death By Dessert” theater production Nov. 21-22, Rec League, Ocean, McCloud and When Words Fail indie-rock concert on Nov. 23 and a metal show featuring Fermented Plague, Sins Ov Madness, Zarochi and Saint Martyr on Nov. 29.
“Dec. 5, 6 and 7, we'll have a variety of activities happening at The Corner as part of our ‘Christmas At The Corner’ weekend, including free performances of the original holiday play ‘A Whole Other Story’ by Spotlight Homeschool Community Theater of West Michigan,” Bernhardt added.
