Gloria Jean (Parsons) Elenbaas

August 17, 1951-August 2, 2026

Gloria Jean Elenbaas, age 74, of Grand Haven, passed away on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at Corewell Health Grand Rapids-Butterworth Hospital.

She was born on August 17, 1951, in Grand Haven, Michigan, to the late Wesley and Beverly (Braheny) Parsons.

Gloria graduated from Grand Haven High School, Class of 1969. She then completed her medical assistant schooling and worked as a medical assistant at the urgent care center in Grand Haven. She was also a loving caregiver in many capacities for many people over the years.

Gloria lived in Tennessee for a time, where she loved her church. She always attended her kids' and grandkids' events and sports games, and she loved spending time with her friends. Gloria was an avid reader who most enjoyed relaxing with a good book.

Gloria will be lovingly remembered and missed by her daughter, Renee (Korey) Kemp; her son, Brian (Becky) Elenbaas; seven well-loved grandchildren, Emily, Gage (Mia), Devin (Marisa), Michael, Lance, Tristan, and Hayley; and her brother, Gordon (Victoria) Parsons Sr.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her infant son, Roger; and her two sisters, Cindy Veihl and Vicki Purdy.

Jerry Alan Groenhof

December 18, 1944-August 8, 2026

Jerry Alan Groenhof, age 81, of Borculo, passed over into glory on August 8, 2026.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Agnes Groenhof, and brothers, Eugene Groenhof and Ben Groenhof.

Jerry will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife, Ruth of 61 years; son, Scott (Barbara) Groenhof; daughters, Esther (Matt) Taylor, Vicki (Thomas) Strobel, and Melinda Groenhof; as well as eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Jerry graduated from Jordon College with an associate’s degree in Bible and Psychology. Jerry was a devoted member of Shekinah Revival Ministries, where he served as nursery coordinator for several years and was a Home Life Group Leader. Jerry's occupations included tire service, auto mechanics, framing houses, stump grinding, proto-type welder and driving a bus for Pioneer Resources/Life Circle. He loved helping others.

A visitation will be held at Shekinah Revival Ministries, 1941 Washington Ave., Holland, MI 49423 from noon-1 p.m. with a memorial service following at 1 p.m.

Charlotte Ann Hoekstra

April 13, 1932-August 6, 2026

Charlotte “Char” Ann Hoekstra, age 94, went home to be with her Lord and savior on Thursday, August 6, 2026, while surrounded by her family.

Char had a sweet and gentle personality and a heart for others. She deeply cherished her family, especially her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild! She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cooking, reading, and traveling. Some of her favorite memories were made at the cottage on Barlow Lake. Most importantly, she loved her faith and living out her life as a reflection of her Savior. She was a dedicated member of Newhall Reformed Church for many years and was the last surviving charter member! She will be so deeply missed by those who knew her.

Char will be remembered by her children, Doug (Vickie) Hoekstra Jr., Mary (Loren) Shuman; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Hoekstra; grandchildren, Doug (Terry) Hoekstra III, Sarah (Tad) Bultema, Carrie (Myron) Varouhaikis, Joel (Julie) Shuman, Laura (James) Powell, Mike (Stephanie) Hoekstra, Mark (Heather) Hoekstra; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and many extended relatives and friends.

Char was preceded in death by her husband, Doug Hoekstra; son, Mike Hoekstra; parents George and Adriana Ahlberg; and sister, Marlene (Bruce) Houseman.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, August 14, 2026, at Cook Memorial Chapel (East Building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, MI 49418. A funeral service celebrating Char’s life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Cook Memorial Chapel (East Building), with visitation from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Char will be laid to rest at Grandville Cemetery.

Janice Eileen Hofmeyer

September 29, 1936-August 6, 2026

Jan Hofmeyer (Rozema), age 89, of Holland, passed peacefully into heaven on Thursday, August 6, 2026.

Jan was born on September 29, 1936, to Charles and Jeanette (De Witt) Rozema. She married the love of her life, Ken Hofmeyer, on June 10, 1960, and together they shared 66 wonderful years of marriage.

A lifelong resident of Holland, Jan was a faithful member of Fourth Reformed Church for many years before recently becoming a member of Graafschap Christian Reformed Church. She spent many years serving others through her work in customer service at Sligh Furniture.

Above all else, Jan treasured her family. Her greatest joy was spending time with them.

Jan is lovingly survived by her husband, Ken Hofmeyer; her son, Michael and Sheri Hofmeyer of Norton Shores; her daughter, Mary and John Busscher of Holland; her grandchildren, Curtis and Kate Busscher, Nicole and Erik Oudmolen, and Alyssa Hofmeyer; and her six cherished great-grandchildren, Harper, Brinslee, Mason, Jameson, Annabelle, and Waylon.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday (August 12), at Graafschap Christian Reformed Church, 5973 Church St. Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday (August 11), at the Dykstra Funeral Home-Mulder Chapel.

Paul Gene Kalkman

January 28, 1944-August 9, 2026

Paul Gene Kalkman, age 82, of Holland, passed away in his home on Sunday, August 9, 2026.

Paul was born January 28, 1944, in Holland, Michigan, to Cornelius and Marguerite Kalkman. When he was old enough, he joined his brothers working for the family business, Kalkman Redi-Mix, while also attending school. Paul graduated from Holland Christian High School in 1962 and married his high school sweetheart, Linda Ellen Bouws, on August 27, 1965.

Paul graduated from Ferris State University in 1966 and soon began working for Donnelly Mirrors. He was a hard worker-his children remember going to work with him on many Saturdays and walking alongside him through the plant-and rose through the company ranks to eventually become president of Donnelly Corporation. Paul was an entrepreneur at heart and was involved with numerous companies. His most successful venture was KAM Plastics, which he started with his friend Cleon Morgan in 1994. It was from KAM that Paul eventually retired in 2013.

Paul enjoyed cars, hunting, and spending time outdoors. He was a lifetime member of the Holland Fish and Game Club. In his spare time, he created a family retreat near Leroy, Michigan, building a cabin where everyone could gather, building roads and plowing trails through the woods with the heavy equipment he used in his youth at Kalkman Redi-Mix. He loved to spend his days tinkering at the Cabin, often with Linda and the grands there for company.

Paul was blessed with a wonderful circle of dear friends and extended family with whom he and Linda often visited and traveled. Above all, Paul was devoted to his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and in particular his wife, Linda. Paul and Linda have modeled a strong, faith-based marriage, rooted first and foremost in a lasting relationship with Jesus Christ. Paul was a member of Holland Heights Christian Reformed Church and served in various capacities.

Paul was preceded in death by his siblings: Ken Kalkman, Chet Kalkman, Earl Kalkman, Donna Wolters, Dave Kalkman; and in-laws, Evie Kalkman, Phyllis Kalkman, Mary Kalkman, Paul Wolters, and Jeff Altena.

Paul will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Linda, of nearly 61 years; daughters, Kimberly (Steve) Raak, and Robin (Brett) Diepenhorst; his son, James (Beth) Kalkman; nine grandchildren, Jason (Courtney) Raak, Jacob (Claire) Kalkman, Lauren (Ethan) Mouw, Lindsay (Logan) Eby, Benjamin Kalkman, Kaitlin Diepenhorst, Hunter Diepenhorst, Colin Kalkman, and Luke Diepenhorst; and four great-grandchildren, Wrenley Raak, Blakely Raak, Charlotte Kalkman, and Jonah Kalkman.

Paul is also survived by his sister, Marge Altena; and in-laws, Ardith Kalkman, Sue Harleman, Darlene (Ron) Dykstra, John (Bonnie) Bouws, and Bryan (Cathy) Bouws.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Riley's Grove, Hospice of Holland, and Comfort Keepers in coordinating efforts in bringing Paul home for his last few days.

Funeral services are planned for 11 a.m. Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Holland Heights Christian Reformed Church, 836 E 8th St., Holland. Rev. Ralph Beidler will officiate. Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, August 12, at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E 16th St., Holland.
