Phyllis Kay Barkel

April 6, 1941-March 26, 2026

Phyllis Kay Barkel, 84, of Zeeland, Michigan, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2026.

Born April 6, 1941, in Borculo, Michigan, Phyllis was the daughter of Lewis and Anne (Vanden Heuvel) Vanden Bosch. She married Art Barkel in 1958.

A formal and respectful presence to all who knew her, Phyllis built a life rooted in family, faith, and steady dedication. She worked as a beautician for 30 years and later concluded her career at West Michigan Canvas. A longtime member of Second Reformed Church in Zeeland, she remained devoted to her church community throughout the years.

Phyllis enjoyed many hobbies, including bowling, golfing, and knitting — pastimes that reflected her active spirit and the simple joys she found in everyday life.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Art Barkel; her parents, Lewis and Anne Vanden Bosch; her sister, Lucille Krithof; her brothers-in-law, Jerry Krithof and Gene Davidson; and her sister-in-law, Kathy Davidson.

She is survived by her children, Jeff (Lisa) Barkel and Kim (Kevin) Blauwkamp; her special friend, Lee Dekker; brother, Bob (Shirley) Vanden Bosch; sister, Barb (Cal) Janssen; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be on April 4, 2026, at Second Reformed Church, 225 E. Central Ave., Zeeland, with visitation from 10-11 a.m. and a service at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made out to Faith Hospice.


Anthony John Ochmanek

June 26, 1948-March 21, 2026

Anthony “Tony” Ochmanek, of Holland, Michigan, passed away on March 21, 2026, at the age of 77.

He was born in Detroit, Michigan, and lived a life defined by dedication to his family, service to his country, and a strong presence in his community.

Tony was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served his country during the Vietnam War. Following his service, he attended Ferris State University and went on to become a skilled carpenter and successful business owner. His craftsmanship and work ethic were evident in everything he built, and his reputation for quality and integrity was well known.

Tony is survived by his wife, Brenda Ochmanek, with whom he was married for 53 years; his children, Anthony Ochmanek Jr. (Nelly) and Lisa Ruman (Mike); and his grandchildren, Amelie Ochmanek, Cooper, Kyle, Katie, and Sydney Ruman. He is also survived by his siblings, Mary Ann Trenta, Paul (Christine) Ochmanek, John Ochmanek, James (Renee) Ochmanek, and Mark Ochmanek.

A man known by many in his community, Tony was friendly, outgoing, and always ready with a conversation or a helping hand. He was an active member of Our Lady of the Lake Church and served faithfully with the Knights of Columbus.

Tony will be remembered for his warmth, sense of humor, dedication to his family, and the lasting impact he had on everyone who knew him.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 480 152nd Avenue in Holland. Public viewing begins at 10 a.m., followed by Mass at 11 a.m.

Arrangements are by Dykstra Funeral Homes – Northwood Chapel.

Samuel Sauceda

December 20, 1943-March 22, 2026

Samuel Sauceda, age 82, of Holland, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, March 22, 2026.

The family will receive visitors noon-2 p.m. and 5-9 p.m. Sunday, March 29, at the Dykstra Funeral Home - Mulder Chapel, 188 W. 32nd St., Holland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 30, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 171 W. 13th St., Holland. Visitation will also be 9-9:45 a.m. prior to the Mass.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
