Jacolyn Jean Atwood
August 16, 1943-October 15, 2026
Here I am at the Twilight of my life
I always believed I would live a life until eternity.
Now the later years has proven that I'm a mere mortal,
I have lived a life of curiosity and adventure.
A life that I have been very
Blessed and Fortunate to share as an exceptional women.
Jackie was born on August 16, 1943, to Harold and Marge Chaddock in Chicago, Illinois, where her father was training during World War II. She moved with her family to South Haven, Michigan, at a very early age (this is where her father grew up). Jackie's parents and younger brother preceded her passing. Jackie was married to Tom for 59 years, and they adopted and raised two boys.
As Jackie grew up, she was excited about having a career teaching elementary school kids what a great world of learning awaited them in their future years, and her responsibility was to prepare them for this wonderful future adventure. Jackie graduated from Holland High School in 1961 before earning a bachelor's and Master's degree in Education from Western Michigan University, along with numerous advanced Science certificate hours in preparation for and during her teaching career. Education was very important to her and her husband. Jackie taught third through seventh grade for 40 years. She was an exceptional teacher who had a way of making learning exciting. Science was her main passion in exploring all the wonders of Mother Nature through Outdoor Schools and/ or looking through a microscope.
Due to her husband's career, she had the opportunity to teach in Beaverton, Oregon, for 30 years, where all forms of science studies were strongly encouraged because of the local high-tech industry. Jackie would come home many nights and share the wonders of watching another student's eyes light up when they discovered another wonder of science.
Jackie was an early believer in Women's Rights, having belonged to the American Business Women Association, Board Member of the Oregon Educational Association, Board Member of the Beaverton Education Association and various other science committees. There are many other achievements that I could mention that Jackie participated in, but this letter is a Celebration of Life. A life where 15 exchange students from various European and Asian countries came to her house to share and learn the differences in people's lives.
We are at the Twilight of our lives
We always believed we would live a life until eternity, and we will, through the sons and students who she had the honor of teaching.
Now the later years has proven that we are mere mortals.
We have lived a life of curiosity and adventure.
A life that I have been very Blessed and Fortunate to share as an (as Tom has said many times) exceptional women.

Barbara Ann Phillippe
December 23, 1938-October 9, 2026
Barbara Ann Phillippe, of Douglas, was surrounded by her family and spiritually escorted by Archangel St. Michael to her heavenly father on October 9, 2026.
Barbara was a loving wife, mother, a “sparkly” grandma, and “sucker” great-grandma.
She was born in Frankfort, Michigan, on December 23, 1938, to parents Carl and Ruth Johnson. Barbara met her husband, Samuel Phillippe Jr., while he was stationed at Empire Air Force Base; they married on September 7, 1957, and spent decades building a life centered around family. After living in several states, they settled in 1970 at their home in Douglas, where she raised their five children. On October 2, 2026, Sam and Barbara had their wedding convalidated by the Catholic Church.
Barbara’s greatest legacy was found in the thousands of small acts of love she gave throughout her life; her home was always a place of Midwest food from a single harvest gold pot, laughter, conversation, and comfort. She loved sewing, knitting, nurturing her beautiful gardens, and rocking each new grandchild and great-grandchild while humming the melodious "Quintin’s" theme. She would go on to become a co-owner of Respite Cappuccino Court in Douglas, happily returning to her apron and baking treats for the entire community. She believed no one should leave her home hungry or empty-handed and had a gift for making people feel cared for. Her strong family values, generosity, and love of tradition shaped generations that followed.
Barbara is survived by her husband Samuel Phillippe Jr., her children, Pamela Aalderink (Keith), Michael Phillippe (Cydney), Yvonne Dirkse (Jerry), Judie Schippa, Renee Waddell; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters, Judy Allen, Yvonne Love; and sister-in-law, Marylou Fonte.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Ruth Johnson, and her sister, Betty Lou Love.
Services will be at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Douglas on Monday, October 19, 2026, at 11 a.m., with a small gathering to follow. The family would be pleased if you wore something sparkling to honor Barbara.

Annette June Marsh-Carper
April 2, 1948-October 11, 2026
Annette June Marsh-Carper, 78, of Fennville, Michigan, was welcomed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on October 11, 2026.
Annette was born on April 2, 1948, in Lansing, Michigan, to Lawrence and Arlene Hansen. She grew up alongside her younger brother Elliot, and graduated from Lansing Eastern High School in 1966.
That same year, she met Mike Marsh, and the two married in 1967. Together, they made their home in Saugatuck, Michigan, where they raised their sons, Andrew and Aaron. Annette devoted herself to motherhood, creating a loving home and a wonderful life for her family. The childhood she lovingly created for her sons became a source of treasured memories and stories that the family would share for years to come.
After 30 years together, Mike passed from cancer, bringing a heartbreaking close to a cherished chapter of Annette’s life. Although their time together was cut short, the love and family they built would remain a foundation of Annette’s life through all the years that followed.
Annette later married Phil Carper, marking the beginning of another beautiful chapter of her life. Together they built a home where they would spend the rest of their lives, opening its doors to family and friends throughout the years.
Much of this chapter was spent embracing the joys of being a grandmother. She was a constant and loving presence in her grandchildren’s lives, helping care for them throughout their childhood. She filled the time at “Grandma and Phil’s House” with love, laughter, and a sense of belonging, creating memories they will treasure for the rest of their lives.
Throughout her life, Annette embodied selflessness and compassion. Caring for others came naturally to her, and she devoted much of herself to the people she loved. Whether tending to loved ones through illness, offering a helping hand, or simply being there when someone needed her, she gave generously of herself.
An extraordinary homemaker, Annette had a remarkable gift for bringing her creative visions to life. She was an accomplished seamstress, knitter, and quilter – one of her quilts won first prize at the Michigan State Fair. She also loved cooking, decorating, woodworking, and refinishing antiques. Annette approached each with passion, skill, and an eye for detail – making her home a beautiful reflection of her talents. The home she created with her hands was beautiful, but it was the home she created with her heart that made it truly special. Through her generosity and
hospitality, she made everyone who entered feel they belonged.
That gift for making others feel at home extended far beyond her own front door. She had a remarkable ability to connect with people from all walks of life, finding common ground with nearly anyone she met. Her genuine warmth and interest in others made even the briefest encounters meaningful, leaving a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Annette was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Arlene Hansen; her brother, Elliot Hansen; and her husbands, L. Michael Marsh (Mike) and Phil Carper.
She is survived by her sons, Andrew (Michelle) Marsh and Aaron (Beth) Marsh; grandchildren, Zach (Alyssa) Marsh, Ashley Marsh (Trey Bickel), Michael Marsh (Lauren Freemon), and Rachel Marsh; and great-grandson, Weston Marsh, who arrived two months before Annette’s passing. Annette also leaves behind her stepdaughter, Amanda (Nick) Quinn; step-grandson Kaiden Bierhalter; and step-granddaughters, Mallory and Madison Quinn; and many beloved in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
Above all, Annette was the heart of her family. She had a remarkable gift for bringing people together, creating bonds and traditions that will endure for generations. Though her absence will be felt deeply, the love she gave so freely will live on in the family she held so dear and the countless lives she touched along the way.
A private service will be held at a later date.

David James Masserang
September 8, 1961-October 7, 2026
David J. Masserang had three deep loves in his life: Jody, his soulmate and wife; Adysun, the apple of his eye and only child; and his lifelong passion for turning a wrench.
David was one of eight children born to Richard and Sylvia Masserang, and it was his parents and two siblings who welcomed him home in heaven on October 7, 2026.
Even as a young boy, David had an insatiable mechanical appetite for figuring out how engines worked and bringing them back to life. His determination carried him through a traumatic brain injury, requiring him to relearn skills, and ultimately led him to create a thriving business, My Auto Mechanic.
His hard-working nature and mechanical skills were grand, but what he grew into is what will be missed the most. Every day with David was a lesson in kindness, unconditional love, and protectiveness. He loved Jesus, those close to him, and his country.
He will be dearly missed by his wife; daughter; brothers, Greg (Sharon) Masserang and Don Masserang; three sisters, Sherry (Tim) Fellows, Debbie Alexander, and Mary (Greg Heeren); 17 nieces and nephews; 48 great-nieces and -nephews; his sweet Aunt Mary-Lou and her family; plus a tight-knit crew of wrench-turning friends.
His life will be celebrated Saturday, October 17, 2026, beginning at 10 a.m. with a memorial service starting at 11 a.m., at Grace Community Church, 3500 New Holland St., Hudsonville, MI 49426, with a luncheon immediately following.

Travis Lee Reinsma
October 31, 1975-October 8, 2026
Travis Reinsma, age 50, of Hudsonville, Michigan, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, October 8, 2026.
Travis was born on October 31, 1975, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, alongside his twin brother, Gavin. He lived a life marked by faith, family, hard work, and a heart that always seemed to have room for one more.
Travis’s greatest love was his family. He and his beloved wife, Breck, spent 30 years loving one another, building a life together, and creating a home filled with love, laughter, and the beautiful chaos of raising 10 children. Together, they navigated life’s joys and challenges, creating countless memories along the way. Being a husband, father, and grandfather was one of Travis’s greatest joys, and there was nothing he wouldn’t do for the people he loved.
But Travis’s love didn’t stop at his own front door.
Travis never met a stranger. He had an extraordinary ability to make people feel seen, welcomed, and accepted exactly as they were. He had a special place in his heart for the overlooked, the forgotten, and those who simply needed someone in their corner. He didn’t just befriend people; he brought them into his life. To many, Travis became the father figure, brother, or friend they never knew they needed.
Travis was a skilled ironworker and an incredibly resourceful man whose talents were largely self-taught. He had a remarkable ability to figure out just about anything, yet remained exceptionally humble about his abilities. He was always willing to tackle a challenge, especially when it came to projects around the house. Travis was particularly gifted at starting projects, although finishing them was sometimes another story. His family will forever smile at the memories of his many unfinished projects and his determination to figure things out.
Despite his many talents, Travis never sought recognition or praise. If someone needed help, he was there. He gave freely of his time, talents, and resources, often at considerable cost to himself. He never expected anything in return and rarely gave a second thought to what helping someone else might cost him. His generosity wasn’t always practical, but it was genuine, wholehearted, and unmistakably Travis.
Travis loved hunting, spending time with his family, and the everyday moments that became treasured memories. His family will forever remember his sense of humor, his breakfasts for dinner, and his famous egg sandwiches — a family favorite that everyone agrees only Travis knew how to make just right. Some things simply can’t be replicated, and those egg sandwiches will always be one of them.
Above all, Travis loved Jesus Christ. His faith was an important part of who he was and shaped the way he viewed the people around him. He believed in loving others, extending grace, and helping those in need. He wasn’t someone who simply talked about helping people. He showed up, rolled up his sleeves, and did it.
Travis is survived by his loving wife, Breck; their 10 children Daniel (Laura), Elijah (Taya), Ella, Noah, Gabriel, Andrew, Violet, Lucas, Ruby, and Vera; and cherished grandchildren Jackson and Sumayya.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gary Lynn Reinsma and Denise Rae Wolfe; sister, Hope Lynn; and twin brother, Gavin Rae. Travis was the last surviving member of his immediate childhood family, and his memory now lives on through the beautiful family he and Breck built together.
A celebration of Travis's life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at Daybreak Church, 3501 Baldwin St., Hudsonville, MI 49426, with visitation from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service.
Travis leaves behind far more than memories. He leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, faith, and service. His influence lives on in his children, his grandchildren, the family he built with Breck, and the countless people whose lives are better because they knew him.
His time on this earth was far too short, and the space he leaves behind can never be filled. But the love he gave so freely will continue to ripple through the lives of those he touched. Travis loved fiercely, gave selflessly, and never hesitated to make room for one more.
In memory of Travis, contributions in support of the Reinsma family can be given through GoFundMe. The family welcomes memories and messages at cookcaresgrandville.com in their guestbook online.

Troy "Dan" Wassink
January 4, 1965-October 15, 2026
Troy Daniel "Dan" Wassink, age 61, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on October 15, 2026.
Dan lived with appendix cancer for many years, but it never kept him from fully embracing life. Up to his final days, he pursued work he loved, spent time with close friends and family, traveled to places he loved, and looked forward to his next adventure.
Dan was kind, helpful, humorous, and a bit mischievous-qualities that brought laughter to every gathering. He was inquisitive, loved gaining knowledge, and thoroughly enjoyed a good debate on nearly any topic. Dan also had a deep love for music, especially live music, and enjoyed attending concerts. For more than 30 years, he attended Summerfest in Milwaukee with friends, making it a favorite tradition where he could experience nearly every genre of music in one place.
Dan had a lifelong passion for technology, computers, and electronics, and he was a true trendsetter in that world. He was fortunate to make that passion his life's work and to share it with others: from his early days at VandenBerg Stereo, to overseeing IT at Shoreline Creations, to serving as an Apple Genius. In the final chapter of his career, Dan became an educator, helping thousands of people through his tutorials on Apple products and software. His members and online community will truly miss him.
For Dan, Beth was his person — his "Chik" — and he was, and will always remain, the love of her life. Their shared adventures began with their beach wedding in the Keys and continued through annual visits to Disney World, Dan's favorite place on earth; road trips; and recent journeys to New England in 2025 and the national parks of the West in spring 2026. They could almost always be found together, sharing the experiences and adventures they loved.
Dan's family was at the heart of his life. He loved them deeply and was deeply loved in return. As the family's memory keeper, he captured both small and significant moments in photos and videos that his family will always cherish and that future generations will enjoy.
Dan was preceded in death by his father, Carl Wassink; stepmother, Ruth Wassink; stepfather, Robert Lanning; mother-in-law, Sharon Noteboom; and infant sister, Wendy Wassink.
He is survived by his wife, Beth Wassink; mother, Phyllis Ann Smith; brother, Nick and Jo Ann Wassink; sisters, Whitney and Ed Gasper, and Melissa and David Tatlock; brothers-in-law, Robert and Susan Noteboom, and William and Carolyn Noteboom; sister-in-law, Rebecca and Dennis Shelp; father-in-law, Richard Noteboom; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A celebration of life open house will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday, October 25, with an honorary toast at 5 p.m. at the Moose Lodge 1116, 106 S. River Ave., Holland, MI 49423.

Leroy "Roy" Wehrmeyer
June 25, 1927-October 12, 2026
Leroy “Roy” Wehrmeyer, 99, of Holland, Michigan, went to be with his Lord on October 12, 2026.
Born June 25, 1927, in Iowa, Roy was the youngest of five children. During the Depression, the family moved to the Grand Rapids/Holland area, where they remained — roots that Roy carried with quiet steadiness throughout his long life.
From an early age, Roy showed what it meant to be devoted and hard-working. He left school young to help support his family, a decision that reflected both his sense of responsibility and the honest, practical care he offered to those he loved. For most of his working life, Roy was a butcher — skilled, dependable, and excellent at his craft. He retired in 1989, closing a chapter marked by faithful work and integrity.
In early 1951, Roy met Doris Houzenga. Only a few short weeks later, on April 27, 1951, they were married in Fulton, Illinois, where Doris was originally from — an occasion that even made the local paper. Together they returned to the Holland area and built a life grounded in commitment and love, welcoming five boys into their family. Roy and Doris shared many joys, including square dancing and traveling with their family, with camping trips and visits to Florida held especially dear.
In retirement, Roy embraced the simple blessings of everyday life. Many days found him outdoors in his garden, where he grew everything from flowers to vegetables that his family regularly enjoyed. When he wasn’t tending the garden, Roy could often be found playing cards on Fridays with Doris and their friends, watching the Detroit Tigers, the Pistons and college sports, or out on the golf course.
In 2001, Roy lost Doris, the love of his life — a loss felt throughout the entire family. In the midst of that grief, Roy discovered a new passion: cooking and baking, something he had not tried his hand at before. Over time, his kitchen became a place of welcome and care. Roy became known for freshly baked muffins, and some of the most cherished family memories are tied to his ability to always have food ready for anyone who might stop by. Roy’s Christmas dinners were a family favorite, and his steady support and love remained a constant.
Later in life, Roy cherished the gift of being a grandpa. He made time for his grandchildren, supported them at their sporting events, and showed up in the ways that mattered — reliably, generously, and with a devotion that asked for no attention in return. The family will miss Roy’s seemingly never-ending supply of homemade muffins, support, and love.
Throughout his life, and through his marriage to Doris, Roy was a devout Christian. He was a congregation member of Rose Park Reformed Church for some time, then a member of the Consistory at Grace Reformed Church, and later a congregation member of Calvary Christian Reformed Church. Faith was not merely spoken, but practiced — seen in the way Roy lived and in the way he was so often the first to lead prayer before mealtimes.
Roy was preceded in death by his father, Earnest Wehrmeyer; his mother, Alice Holt; his beloved wife, Doris Wehrmeyer; his three brothers; and his sister.
He is survived by his sons, Doug (Donna) Wehrmeyer, Randy (Pam) Wehrmeyer, Jeff (Lyn) Wehrmeyer, Greg (Lori) Wehrmeyer, and Brian Wehrmeyer; as well as 12 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. at Lakeshore Memorial Services, 11939 James St., Holland, Michigan 49424, on October 16, 2026. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. on October 16, 2026, at Lakeshore Memorial Services.
