- Today will be bitterly cold as Arctic air hovers over the area in a phenomenon known as a "polar vortex" through Sunday. Ottawa County remains under an extreme cold advisory until 11 a.m. Saturday, with dangerously cold wind chills as low as -25 to -30. These dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in 30 minutes or less and hypothermia will occur. An extended period of freezing temperatures could cause ruptured water pipes. Residents are urged to stay indoors and to keep their pets inside as much as possible. The extreme cold is expected to remain through the end of the month.
- The snow will continue, as Ottawa County remains under a winter weather advisory until 7 p.m. Friday. Additional snow accumulations will bring up to 2 inches near the lakeshore, creating poor visibility in falling and blowing snow. Intermittent snow and flurries are expected on Saturday and Sunday.
- Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will continue to be slick and hazardous over the next several days. Visibility and road conditions may change rapidly over short distances in lake-effect snow; the hazardous conditions are expected to impact the Friday evening commute.
