Two hospitalized after high-speed crash on Lake Macatawa
Two people were injured, one seriously, on Sunday after a high-speed boating accident on Lake Macatawa near Kollen Park sent a vessel slamming onto its side.
HOLLAND — Two people were injured, one seriously, on Sunday after a high-speed boating accident on Lake Macatawa near Kollen Park sent a vessel slamming onto its side.
According to a preliminary investigation by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, a 43-year-old Hamilton-area man was operating the boat at high speeds heading eastbound when the vessel hit a large wake. The impact sent the boat's bow surging upward before it crashed down on its side.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene following initial reports of an overturned vessel. Responders located both occupants aboard the damaged boat.
An adult female passenger was transported to Holland Hospital with minor injuries. The 43-year-old operator suffered serious injuries and was taken to Corewell Health Metro Hospital.

The response drew a multi-agency effort, including the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, Holland Department of Public Safety, Park Township Fire Department, Allegan County Sheriff’s Office, and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office.
