SPRING LAKE TWP. — A 21-year-old local motorcyclist is in critical condition following a two-vehicle collision Sunday afternoon on US-31, local authorities said.

Emergency responders — including the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, the Spring Lake Township Fire Department, and LIFE EMS — were dispatched to US-31 near Taft Street around 2:46 p.m.

According to preliminary findings by investigators, the man was traveling northbound in the left lane on a Yamaha motorcycle when a farm pickup truck, driven by a 70-year-old Montague resident, merged from the right lane into his path. The motorcycle struck the rear of the pickup, throwing the rider from his bike.
