Acclaimed folk artist Mark Dvorak to launch Loutit Library’s Sunday Concert Series

GRAND HAVEN — Folk singer-songwriter Mark Dvorak will open the 2026-27 Sunday Concert Series at the Loutit District Library at 2 p.m. Sept. 20.

The performance, hosted at 407 Columbus Ave., brings back an artist who previously drew a packed crowd to the library’s second-floor listening space last spring.

“Mark has become a fan favorite here at Loutit,” said Katie Alphenaar, head of reference and information. “We thought having him back would be a great way to kick off our 2026-27 season.”

Dvorak, a Chicago-area native who accompanies himself on guitar, 12-string guitar, and five-string banjo, brings decades of performance experience to the Grand Haven stage.

“At this stage of the game,” Dvorak said, “I feel like I’m doing my best work.”

The concert follows two recent milestones for the musician: the release of his 20th album, "Live & Alone" — recorded in an empty hall during the pandemic lockdown — and his fourth book of essays, "31 Winters," which chronicles his career in music and education.

Over his career, Dvorak has earned widespread recognition in the folk community. The Chicago Tribune described his work as “masterful,” while The Midnight Special radio host Rich Warren dubbed him “Chicago’s official troubadour.”

His accolades include the Woodstock Folk Festival Lifetime Achievement Award (2008) and the Folk Alliance International FARM Lantern Bearer Award (2013).

The Sept. 20 performance is free to the public.
