Democrats, Republicans host events around Ottawa County heading into election cycle

It's election season, and things are ramping up for both major political parties.

Here's where to find local Democrats and Republicans: 

Ottawa County Democrats

July 11

Ottawa Canvas Training

• Time: 10-11 a.m. (weekly)
• Where: Ottawa County Democratic Party Offices Headquarters, 400 136th Ave., Holland
• About: Learn how to canvas for Abdul for Senate, undergo training then go practice on a couple of doors.

Hudsonville Pride

• Time: Noon-6 p.m. 
• Where: 4950 32 Ave., Hudsonville 
• About: Visit Ottawa County Democrats at this year's Hudsonville Pride for a fun-filled day with drag performances, more than 60 vendors and more.

Door Knock for Sean McCann

• Time: 10-11:30 a.m. and noon-2:30 p.m. (weekly until Saturday, Oct. 3)
• Where: Sign up here for more details
• About: Canvass for McCann, who is running for Michigan’s Fourth Congressional District seat. Whether you're new to canvassing or a seasoned veteran, this event will provide all the training to be successful. 

July 12

Annual Ottawa County Democrats Picnic

• Time: 1-3:30 p.m. 
• Where: Kirk Park, West Olive
• About: Join fellow Democrats at this year's Ottawa County Democrats Picnic. Hear directly from candidates such as Hillary Scholten and McCann and connect with neighbors. Buy tickets here. 

July 27-Aug 1

Ottawa County Fair

• Time: Two- to three-hour-long shifts throughout the days of the event, more information on times can be found here. 
• Where: 1286 Ottawa Beach Road, Holland
• About: Help staff the Ottawa County Democrats booth at the 2026 Ottawa County Fair.

Ottawa County Republicans

July 25

Rock MI Red

• Time: Noon-10 p.m. 
• Where: Liberty Mountain, 1001 Mott Mountain Road, Farwell 
• About: Political rally meets freedom festival. Join fellow Republicans and independents for an event with speakers such as Mike Rogers and Jim Runestad, and performer Ted Nugent. Tickets start at $51 for grass seating.
