The westbound lane consisted of loose sand, while the eastbound lane remained gravel. Police said the vehicle was traveling westbound in the eastbound lane and the driver drifted off the gravel shoulder and into the sandy westbound lane.

The transition between the two surfaces caused the driver to lose control, resulting in the vehicle rolling over and ejecting the driver.

Authorities did not release the identity of the driver.

The Port Sheldon Township Fire Department and AMR Ambulance assisted at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office Traffic Unit. Anyone with any information is encouraged to call Ottawa County Central Dispatch Authority at 800-249-0911 or Silent Observer.
