Jenison High's marching band dominates at regional tourney

The Michigan-based powerhouse set the tone early in preliminaries, taking first place in Class AA and earning awards for Outstanding Music Performance, Visual Performance, and General Effect.

TOLEDO, Ohio — Under the lights of Glass Bowl Stadium on Oct. 3, the Jenison High School Marching Band delivered a dominant performance at the Bands of America Northwest Ohio Regional Championship, sweeping all caption honors and capturing the regional crown with a score of 85.150.

The Michigan-based powerhouse set the tone early in preliminaries, taking first place in Class AA and earning awards for Outstanding Music Performance, Visual Performance, and General Effect.

When the lights came on for the evening finals, Jenison elevated their performance even further, sweeping the caption awards once again to seal a decisive victory.

Indiana’s Goshen High School put on a show of their own, finishing in second place overall with an 82.100. Goshen surged into the finals after a clean sweep of Class AAA preliminaries, taking first place and all three caption awards for Music, Visual, and General Effect.

Rockford High School (Michigan) rounded out the top three in the finals with an 80.050, edging out a fiercely competitive middle pack. Lake Orion High School (Michigan) followed in fourth with a 79.700, narrowly topping Walled Lake High School (Michigan) at 79.500 and Warren Central High School (Indiana) at 79.475.

In prelims, Warren Central earned top honors in Class AAAA, boosted by an Outstanding General Effect award and a tie with Plymouth-Canton Educational Park (Michigan) for Visual Performance. Plymouth-Canton also took home the Class AAAA Music caption.

In Class A, Ferndale High School (Michigan) completed a category sweep, taking first place and all caption awards before earning a spot in the evening finals.
