Barbara Joan Burke

November 21, 1937-April 12, 2026

Barbara Joan "Barb" Burke (née Trcka), age 88, passed away peacefully at her home in Spring Lake, Michigan, on Sunday, April 12, 2026.

Born on November 21, 1937, in Flint, Michigan, to Margaret and Jacob Trcka, Barbara lived a life of unwavering faith, love, and service.

Barbara graduated from St. Michael High School and the St. Joseph School of Nursing in Flint. She met her husband, James, the love of her life, in Flint. They were married on November 5, 1960, at St. Luke Catholic Church in Flint, and they established their home together in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Her career as a registered nurse was marked by dedication and compassion for others. She began her professional journey in the pediatric unit at Community Hospital in Indianapolis before focusing on her growing family with her beloved husband. Together, they also opened their hearts and home as foster parents to several baby girls through the St. Elizabeth Home in Indianapolis.

After relocating to Rochester Hills, Michigan, in 1973, and as their sons grew older, Barbara continued her nursing career, working for many years at Rochester Family Practice, and later, serving patients in the Intensive and Cardiac Care Units at Pontiac General Hospital and the clinic at North Oakland Medical Center. After she and her husband moved to Spring Lake in 1993, Barbara remained committed to helping others by volunteering at North Ottawa Community Hospital and Positive Options Women's Health Clinic.

Barbara lived her Catholic faith daily and was deeply involved in ministry work alongside James throughout their marriage. As an organist at St. Barnabas Catholic Church in Indianapolis, a catechism teacher for children at St. Irenaeus in Rochester Hills, and St. Mary's Catholic Parish in Spring Lake, a lector and Eucharistic Minister at both churches, a member of the St. Mary's Arts and Environment Committee and Women's Club, and chair of the St. Irenaeus Worship Commission, Barbara gave generously of her time and talents to enrich the spiritual lives of others.

Barbara enjoyed many creative pursuits and hobbies that reflected her vibrant spirit. She loved painting, gardening, cooking, and baking for family and friends, playing piano, participating in water aerobics, traveling with James for visiting family, vacations, or bicycle trips in France and Canada, and attending as many of her grandchildren's events as possible.

Barbara was a kind-hearted woman who always went out of her way for others with a warm and welcoming smile. Her devotion to God and family was evident in every aspect of her life. Every family member and friend held a special place in her heart. She always made everyone feel individually special and leaves a legacy of love that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Barbara will be missed by her devoted husband of 65 years, James; and their three sons: Jim (Kim), Tim (Kristen), and Jeff (Kim); her grandchildren: Kyle, Zoe (Grant Jubb), Audrey, Connor (Madi Miller), Patrick, Erin, and Jack; step-grandchildren: Anthony, Laurel, Danielle, and Lindsey LaBara; great-granddaughter, Riley Jubb; sisters-in-law: Barbara Trcka, Joan Burke, Maureen Piontek, Patricia Burke; as well as numerous cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret (Pajtas) and Jacob Trcka; her brother, Jack; mother-in-law, Florence Burke; sister-in-law, Billie Stubbs; niece, Maureen Stubbs; and brothers-in-law: Bob Stubbs, Tom Burke, and David Piontek.

Barbara's family is grateful to all family and friends who have helped care for her and James over the past year, especially Emily, Rachael, and Michelle with Corewell Health Hospice.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Barbara will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 17, 2026, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 406 E. Savage St., Spring Lake, with Fr. Bill Vander Werff officiating. Visitations will be held on Thursday, April 16, from 4-7 p.m., at Klaassen Family Funeral Home, as well as one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Interment will be at Spring Lake Township Cemetery.

Gloria Gay Edwards

March 5, 1944-April 10, 2026

Gloria Gay Edwards, 82, of Eagle River, Wisconsin, died peacefully on Friday, April 10, 2026, at Lakeside Side Vista in Holland, Michigan, near her son.

Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on March 5, 1944, Gloria’s life was marked by steady devotion — to family, to those in her care, and to the simple comforts that made everyday moments feel a little brighter.

Gloria was born to Grant “Bud” Talmadge and Marguerite Palmer in March of 1944, and she was raised by Joseph J. Casey and Marguerite Palmer Casey.

Over the years, Gloria found purpose in caring for others through her work as a nurse’s aid. That same giving spirit shaped the way she lived beyond her work, expressed in the love she held for her family and in the warmth she extended to those around her.

An avid animal lover, Gloria had a special tenderness for dogs, cats, and rabbits—and at one time even had a housebroken pig. She also enjoyed Bingo and the slots, and in more recent days, she found particular delight in Hallmark movies, which became her latest favorite pastime.

Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Kelly L Edwards; her parents, Joseph and Marguerite Casey; her brother, Joseph Casey Jr.; her sister, Charlotte; and her daughter, Renee (Scott) Rackley.

Gloria is survived by her son, David (Laura); six grandchildren, Tiffany, Dryw, Meagan, Gabby, David Jr, and Connor; three great-grandchildren, Mitchell, Greyson, and Tobin; her brother, Stan; and her sisters, Joann and Jane.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Gloria’s name to the Humane Society of Vilas County.

Bob spent many years working at Gulf and Western and later at Tower Marina before retiring from Bristol Meyer Squibb. He was respected for his strong work ethic, dependability, and practical nature. Whether on the job or at home, he was the kind of man others could count on. His willingness to help, his quiet strength, and his ability to fix just about anything made him a valued presence in both his family and his community.

A Christian faith guided Bob throughout his life, and his beliefs were reflected in the way he treated others. He lived with humility, kindness, and a deep sense of responsibility to those around him. His life was marked by devotion to his family, loyalty to his friends, and a steadfast character that earned the admiration of many.

In his free time, Bob enjoyed golfing, hunting, riding his Harley motorcycle, and spending time with his family. Christine Ann Jensen

April 9, 1943-April 7, 2026

Christine Ann Jensen, age 82, went into the loving arms of her Lord on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.

Christine was preceded in death by her first husband, Ronald Havens; parents, Gerrit and Frances Ballast; brother, Gordon Ballast; and sister-in-law, Evonne Ballast.

She is survived by her second husband, Donald Jensen. She will be deeply missed by her daughter, Michelle (Fred) Elizondo; grandchildren Katie (Ryan) Avink, Trevor (Gabrielle) Clausen, Lydia Clausen (fiancé, Mathew Niemeyer); great-grandchildren Kenna Avink, Ashlynn Avink, Aiden Clausen; sister, Betty (Darl) Richardson; special aunt, Marlene Boggs; many nieces and nephews; and many special friends. Christine also had four step-daughters.

Christine was raised to give of her talents, and that she did. She loved to sew and bake and crochet. She made baby afghan blankets for all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she made them for friends who asked, knowing that they would receive a beautiful blanket that would be a cherished gift. As the grandkids got older, she crocheted them all in adult sizes with colors of their choosing. She also loved to bake for anyone who asked and was famous for her banana bread. Her granddaughter, Lydia, said she made the best chocolate chip cookies. Christine also volunteered at SECOM where she helped in the food pantry with her husband, Don. She also volunteered in her daughter’s classroom during special events and often would provide a meal for the teachers during parent-teacher nights.

Her greatest accomplishment was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and the unconditional love she showed them. She tried very hard to attend every sporting event, band concert, dance recital and competition, award night, music program, and swim meet. Whatever the event, you bet she would try her best to be there, rain or shine. We would like to thank the staff at American House, and especially Dannette, for taking care of Christine in the last months of her life.

Visitation with friends and relatives will take place from 3-7 p.m. Friday, April 24, 2026, at Cook Memorial Chapel (East Building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, MI 49418.
