Kathy Lynn Brower

Kathy Lynn Brower, 75, passed away on April 19, 2026.
Born December 16, 1950, in Allegan, Michigan, Kathy was the daughter of the late Marvin Brower and the late Patricia Brower.
Kathy was raised in Allegan alongside her two sisters and brother, and she graduated from Allegan High School. From her earliest years, she carried herself with a steady self-reliance and quiet resolve that remained evident throughout her life.
Kathy devoted herself to her family, raising her son, Shawn (Laura) Serie, with enduring care and commitment. She found deep meaning in time spent with those she loved, and her presence was one of steadfast support and sincere devotion.
A strong, independent woman, Kathy also had a special affection for the companionship and loyalty of her many dogs over the years. In the simple routines of home and family, and in the bonds she nurtured, she expressed the strength and constancy that defined her.
For about 10+ years, Kathy lived in the Holland area. She was a congregation member of Grace Community Church, where her faith and fellowship were part of her daily life and enduring connections.
Kathy was preceded in death by her father, Marvin Brower, and her mother, Patricia Brower.
She is survived by her son, Shawn (Laura) Serie; her sisters, Stacy Brower and Shelly (John) Hasting; her brother, Scott (Dawn) Brower; and her grandchildren, Rachel Serie and Dylan Serie.
A celebration of life is being planned for a later date, and details will be announced when available.

Marjorie Mae DeWeerd
December 30, 1936-April 24, 2026
Marjorie Mae DeWeerd passed away on April 24, 2026, at the age of 89.
Marjorie was born on December 30, 1936, to Ernest and Mary (Fosdick) VandenBerg in Holland and was a lifelong resident of the area. She worked for over 20 years in the West Ottawa School System, helping serve lunches to students.
Marjorie was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Krystal DeWeerd.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Gerald DeWeerd; children, Rick (Krista) DeWeerd, Vicky (Scott) Joldersma, and Craig (Sue) DeWeerd; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Bernard VandenBerg; and many extended family and friends.
A graveside service will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at North Holland Cemetery.

Robert Lee Harig
December 24, 1937-April 25, 2026
Robert (Bob) Lee Harig, age 88 of Grand Rapids, Michigan, went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, April 25, 2026.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Rose Harig, and brothers, Norman and Maurice Harig.
He will be lovingly missed and remembered by his wife of 58 years, Janice; son, Michael (Sharon) Harig; daughter, Michelle (Mike) Cowin; grandchildren, Matthew and Chloe Harig, William and Jonathan Cowin; sisters-in-law, Gwen Smith, Sandra (Tom) Forest, Christine (Rick) Wight; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Bob graduated from Wyoming Park High School, where he excelled in football. He continued playing football for Grand Rapids Junior College, where his team had the opportunity to play in the JC National Championship at the Los Angeles Coliseum, an accomplishment he enjoyed recalling with family and friends. Bob graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. He retired from Spartan Stores after 27 years of employment. Bob was happiest when he was helping a neighbor or working on one of his many home improvement projects. He and Jan enjoyed many winters in Panama City Beach, where they gained many special friends.
A mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 8, 2026, at Holy Spirit Parish, 2230 Lake Michigan Dr. NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504. The family will receive relatives and friends one hour prior to the Mass. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Judy Lynn Lee, age 82, of Spring Lake, sadly passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at her home in Spring Lake.
She was a beautiful person who spread joy and happiness to all whom she encountered.

Carson Royce Neifert II
August 10, 1943-April 25, 2026
Carson Royce Neifert II, a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and a friend to all who had the pleasure of meeting him, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, April 25, 2026.
Born in Louisiana on August 10, 1943, to Carson Royce Neifert I and Ella Neifert, Carson's life was a testament to love, service, and joy.
Carson proudly served his country in the Navy, spending two years on a mine sweeper vessel. His dedication to his nation was a family tradition, one he shared with his father, a Brigadier General, and his brother, Lieutenant Colonel (retired) Marc Neifert. His sister, Evelyn “Gayle” Adelsberger, was also a cherished part of his life.
A 1961 graduate of Okemos High School, Carson had a long career with American Greetings, where he especially enjoyed interacting with the many friends he had made while servicing his accounts. A man of many passions, Carson was a fervent supporter of the Michigan State Spartans and a devoted fan of all Detroit teams, particularly the Tigers. His love for sports extended to baseball, where he spent many seasons coaching his three children and later serving as an umpire. His enthusiasm for the game was matched only by his love of fishing. Carson was an avid fisherman, known for spending countless hours on the lake or on the ice, undeterred by whether the fish were biting.
Beyond his hobbies, Carson was a man of immense generosity. He dedicated numerous hours as a volunteer for the Santa Claus Girls, finding great joy in bringing happiness to others. He also spent many years as an usher, Sunday School teacher, and youth group leader at Grandville United Methodist Church.
Carson was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Gayle; sister-in-law, Tiina; niece, Natalia LoBue; and three of his beloved grandchildren, Carson, Willie, and Violet Sherman.
He leaves behind his devoted wife of 57 years, Carolyn; children, Alison (Eddie) Schmidt, Angela (Dennis) Gort, and Tony (Leah) Neifert; along with brother, Marc (Tiina); and many extended family members. His grandchildren, Hayden and Bonnie Schmidt, and Libby and Ella Neifert, will carry forward his legacy of love and kindness.
Carson Royce Neifert II will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his dedication to community service, his contagious laughter and his joy for life. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2026, with visitation one hour prior to the service, at Grandville United Methodist Church, 3140 Wilson Ave. SW, Grandville, Michigan. Pastor Mona Jocelyn will officiate. Please join the family after the service for refreshments and sharing memories. Judith Lee Palmateer

Judith "Judy" Lee Palmateer (Utermarck), age 85, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.
Judy was born on August 1, 1940, in Kankakee, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Stirling, and sister, Robin. Growing up in Kankakee, Judy met the love of her life in high school — her husband of 64 years, Kenneth C. Palmateer. Together, they built a life centered around love and family, eventually making their home in Jenison, Michigan. After retiring, Judy and Ken moved to Florida, then returned to Jenison in 2016 to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Judy was a devoted wife, mom, grandma, and great-grandma, and she loved nothing more than spending time with her family and close friends. She had a fun-loving spirit and especially looked forward to visits from her grandchildren in Florida — taking them to the beach, collecting seashells, and enjoying time together. She found happiness in the simple things, like watching "The Price Is Right," antique shopping, and adding to her collection of paperweights. She leaves behind many special memories that her family will always hold close in their hearts.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Palmateer; children, Michelle (Lee) Edson, Malyn (Roger) Goeman, and KC Palmateer; grandchildren, Kailyn (Justin) Speaks, Kyle (Melanie) Goeman, and Courtney (Tyler) Deur; and great-grandchildren, Charlie and Miller Speaks, Lewin Goeman, and Jax and Lennon Deur. Judy will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

Roger Lee Sal
March 25, 1945-April 27, 2026
Roger Lee Sal passed away on April 27, 2026, in Holland, Michigan, at the age of 81, following complications due to Parkinson’s disease.
He was born on March 25, 1945, in Hamilton, Michigan, to Lawrence and Winifred Sal. He graduated from Zeeland High School and later attended Grand Rapids Community College. Roger was a veteran of the Air National Guard and also worked faithfully for Fitzpatrick Electric and Kendall. In every place he served, he was known as a dependable and hardworking man who carried himself with quiet strength and integrity. Above all, Roger was a devoted Christian. He was a member of Central Park Church for 53 years, and his commitment to the Lord was evident in the way he lived and served. During those many years, he gave his time and heart as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, and elder.
Roger was a dedicated and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was married to Lois for 58 years.
He is lovingly remembered by his children and their families, including Brent, Julie, Camden, and Aidan; Ryan, Tricia, Connor, Wyatt, and Nathan; Dan, Concetta, and Rosie; and Laura, Dean, Ramsey, and Summit Hron. He also leaves behind his aunt, Norma, and Warren Wierda; his brother and sister-in-law, James and Vonnie Hopp; and several nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Winifred Sal; his in-laws, Sidney and Lorraine Hopp; and his sister-in-law, Marlene Drenth.
Roger enjoyed boating, fishing, trapping, hunting, Cushman scooters, and Corvette cruises. He appreciated music and spending time with his family. His life was marked by devotion to God, loyalty to family, and service to his church and community. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will remain a source of comfort and gratitude to all who were blessed to know him. A life so faithfully lived leaves behind a lasting witness. Roger’s earthly journey has ended, but his faith in Christ gives hope beyond the grave. His family and friends take comfort in the promise of God’s eternal love. Roger will be remembered with love, respect, and thanksgiving for a life well lived in service to God and others.
A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 2, at Central Park Church in Holland. A two-hour visitation will take place prior to the service from 9 a.m.-10:45 a.m. A private burial will take place in Graafschap Cemetery.

Douglas Jay Schurman

Douglas Jay Schurman, age 77 of Holland, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2026, in Grand Rapids.
Doug was born in Holland on May 2, 1948, to Lloyd and Laura (Brower) Schurman. A lifelong resident of the Holland area, he was a member of Trinity Reformed Church, where he served as Elder and Deacon, and was a part of the “Monday Morning Work Crew.” Doug worked for L.S. Mold for many years prior to retiring, and could be found golfing or fishing any chance he could. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ross Schurman; and brother-in-law, Ron Voss.
Doug is survived by his wife, Dawn, of 56 years; children, Steve (Amanda) Schurman, James (Cyndy) Schurman, and Sara Moore; seven grandchildren, Taryn, Tyler, Ryann, Teddy, Cody, Liam, and Tristan; sister, Gloria DeJonge; in-laws Dave (Pat) Voss, Mary Voss, and Mary Lou DeVries; many extended family and friends.
Visitation will be at 6-8 p.m. on May 3, 2026, at Trinity Reformed Church, 712 Apple Ave., Holland, Michigan 49423.

Joyce Lorraine Tiesman
September 15, 1937-April 24, 2026
At the age of 88, Joyce Lorraine Tiesman went home to be with her heavenly Father on Friday, April 24, 2026, surrounded by her family.
She was born on September 15, 1937, to Henry and Tena (Vos) Tenboer of Morrison, Illinois. Joyce was educated at Prairie Center Grade School and then graduated in 1955 from Morrison High School. She married Arnold Tiesman on November 2, 1956. They made their home in Fulton, Illinois.
She worked for Dr. Curt Gronner in Morrison after graduation, then worked as a secretary at Fidelity Life Insurance Company in Fulton, Illinois. She also worked part-time at the local Dime Store in Fulton, as well as a secretary at Clinton Community College in Clinton, Iowa, for many years. Her hobbies were crocheting and knitting. She crocheted 21 afghans and gave them all to her children and grandchildren, as well as some for wedding gifts. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved attending their sports events, orchestra concerts, and band concerts.
Joyce loved music and gave piano lessons for 14 years. She was a pianist for choirs at Fulton Christian School for several years and was an organist at First Christian Reformed Church in Fulton, Illinois, for 56 years. Joyce volunteered at Bargain Bonanza in Clinton, Iowa. After retirement, Arnold and Joyce moved to Hudsonville, Michigan, in 2013 to be closer to family. She enjoyed attending and volunteering at the Senior Center. Joyce was a member of Fellowship Reformed Church in Hudsonville, Michigan.
Joyce recently wrote a 500-page book, titled “A Collection of Life Stories” with her granddaughter. She was very proud of this accomplishment. It was filled with stories and memories through the years, from her childhood to the present. Many photos were included as well.
Joyce is survived by her husband of 69 years, Arnold Tiesman; three children, Randy (Cindy) Tiesman of Hudsonville, Michigan, Terry (Julia) Tiesman of Wheaton, Illinois, and Kristi (Joe) Wyn of Hudsonville, Michigan; eight grandchildren, Ashley Tiesman, Haley (Ben) Mast, Abby Tiesman, Grace Tiesman, Peter Tiesman, Derek (Alisha) Wyn, Cory (Sidney) Wyn, and Andrew Wyn; two great-granddaughters, Ryleigh Jo Wyn and Lainey Ann Wyn; one sister, Barbara Prins; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Tena Tenboer; one grandson, Noah Benjamin Tiesman; two brothers, Kenneth Tenboer and Wayne Tenboer; one brother-in-law, Irv Prins; and two sisters-in-law, Vivian Tenboer and Ruth Tenboer.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Cook Memorial Chapel (East Building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, MI 49418. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2026, at First Christian Reformed Church, 801 15th Ave., Fulton, IL 61252, with visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service.
