Juan Llanes-Santillan

July 19, 1958-June 8, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Juan Francisco Llanes Santillan, beloved husband, father, brother and son, 67, at his home in Jenison, Michigan, on June 8, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Born in Monterrey Nuevo León, México, on July 18, 1958, to his parents Higinio Llanes Rodríguez and Francisca Santillan Orozco, he spent his childhood in Colonia Zapata in Monterrey, Mexico. He graduated from the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León in San Nicolás de los Garza as an Architect in August of 1982. Juan was a private architect while in Mexico, but when he moved to the US in 2000, his skills no longer matched the needed skills to continue practicing his craft, so he went to work at Gentex in 2001. He worked there until he was forced to retire due to the progression of Alzheimer's disease in 2020. During his time there, in 2010, he became a citizen of the United States.

Juan also worked as a caregiver to a paraplegic man for several years while he worked at Gentex, and he found that to be extremely rewarding.

Juan was an extremely kind, soft-spoken person who focused on his physical fitness and worked out regularly. He had no use for the material things that most people aspire to have. Juan enjoyed some amateur photography. He adored his dogs. He married his partner and best friend, Gerald Chrisman II, on September 14, 2019, and they shared a content, happy life together. In March of 2021, when the effects of Alzheimer's disease were becoming exceedingly difficult, Gary left his job to become a full-time caregiver to Juan.

Juan is survived by his husband, Gerald (Gary) L. Chrisman II, 71; his son from a previous marriage, Adrian Paul Llanes, 22; his siblings, Carolina Llanes Quijano, Higinio Llanes Quijano, 89, Pedro Llanes Quijano, 84, Florentina Llanes Santillan, Jose Llanes Santillán, María Elodia Llanes Santillan, 72, and Matías Llanes Santillan, 70, as well as one nephew in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and several cousins in Grand Rapids and Holland, Michigan.

Juan was preceded in death by his father, Higinio Llanes Rodríguez, and his mother, Francisca Santillan Orozco.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. on June 12; visitation will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Dykstra Funeral Home, 295 Douglas Ave., Holland, Michigan, 49424. A burial will follow at Pilgrim Home Cemetery, 370 E. 16th St., Holland. The location of a celebration luncheon will be announced at the service.

Gordon Lee Waddell

July 20, 1939-June 5, 2026

Gordon Waddell, age 86, went to be with his Lord and savior on Friday, June 5, 2026.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Mary Waddell; wife of 65 years, Carol Ann Waddell; son, Brett David Waddell; sister, Lynne Waddell-Boyle; and beloved hound dog of 16 years, Sasha.

He is survived by his oldest son, Todd Waddell; daughter, Amber (Jeff) Bolhouse; grandchildren, Sean (Korinna) Waddell, Tyler Thompson, Tanner Thompson, Trenten Bolhouse, Lindsay (Luke) Steele, Jacob Waddell, and Adam Waddell; and great-grandchildren, Alyza and Luka Steele.

Gordon was a hard worker who was smart, driven, ambitious and yet humble. He was dedicated to providing for his family. He spent over half a century working as a plant manager and operations director for an egg-processing facility. He started at McClure Egg Co., then at McCully Egg Co., and ended his career at Sunrise Acres in Hudsonville and finally retired at 75 years old. He had a great sense of humor and often told people, "he chased chickens for a living."

He enjoyed being outdoors, spending time in Ludington, Michigan. He loved sitting on his deck watching the birds, camping with family, fishing, and taking walks through the woods. Gordon was an avid sports fan and closely followed the Detroit Tigers, Pistons, Lions, and Red Wings — even when the season wasn't going well. He was also a big Michigan Wolverine football and basketball fan. He loved antique cars and owned a 1938 Ford Coupe.

Gordon enjoyed spending time with longtime friends or chatting with random people that crossed his path — he had the gift of gab! He loved sharing stories of his past. He loved his family wholeheartedly and had a love for dogs — always having a dog in his life. Mostly, he loved his Lord and had a strong faith. He was a member of First Reformed Church in Grandville. He previously served as an elder, deacon, and usher and attended many Bible studies at former churches. He enjoyed the Wednesday night gatherings and Sunday morning coffee with his friends. He will be dearly missed by all.

A private family celebration of life service will be held at First Reformed Church of Grandville, followed by a committal service at Rosedale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to the Humane Society of West Michigan. The family welcomes memories and messages at cookcaresgrandville.com in their guestbook online.
