Brian Page Leazier

September 20, 1936-June 16, 2026

Brian Page Leazier, 89, died June 16, 2026.

He was born September 20, 1936, in Sault Sainte Marie, to Essie and James, and was raised in the rural community of Hulburt, Michigan, in the Upper Peninsula. Those early years shaped a steady, outdoors-minded life — one rooted in simple pleasures, hard work, and a deep appreciation for the place that raised him.

From an early age, Brian found joy outside and took naturally to the traditions of the Upper Peninsula. He became an avid hunter, taking his first deer at age 11. He graduated from Hulburt School in 1955, where he was an important member of the basketball team and earned the nickname “Crazy Legs.”

After graduation, Brian enlisted in the United States Navy and served from 1955 to 1959. Upon returning home in 1959, he briefly worked as a log truck driver before joining a road construction team — work that proved to be his calling. He spent much of his working life in road construction and retired at age 62, known for the kind of dependable effort that speaks more loudly than words.

Mary moved to Hulburt with her family when she was 9, and it was there that she met Brian. They began dating in 1956 and were married in 1961. Together they welcomed three children, with their firstborn in 1963. Brian took great pride in being a father and later found immense joy in becoming a grandparent. Doug remembers the hunting trips around Michigan shared with his dad, and Melissa remembers the daddy-daughter dates — times that reflected Brian’s quiet devotion and the warmth he carried for his family.

In retirement, Brian and Mary purchased a motor home and traveled around the country for 10 years, especially enjoying Texas and any destination that brought them close to family. Whether on the road or at home, Brian’s days were often marked by the things he loved: hunting, ice fishing, card games like Cribbage, and the satisfaction of keeping a well-maintained lawn.

Brian is survived by his wife, Mary Leazier; son, Doug (Renee) Leazier; daughter, Melissa (Gary) Maxey; grandchildren, Selena (Stephen), Jacob, Matthew (Julie), and Tucker, Joe (Marissa), Mike (April); and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lori Leazier, 11 brothers and sisters, and son-in-law, Jim Bruner.

A visitation will take place at 11:30 a.m. on June 22 at East Saugatuck Christian Reformed Church, 3815 56th St., Holland, MI 49423. A funeral service will follow beginning at 1 p.m.

Charles Edward Rowe

January 28, 1941-October 14, 2025

Charles Edward Rowe, age 84, of Florida, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, in The Villages, Florida.

He was born on January 28, 1941, in Flint, Michigan, the son of Charles and Frances (Axtell) Rowe.

Known to his friends and family as "Charlie" (and later "Chuck"), he graduated in 1959 from Flushing High School, where he was a standout basketball player, scoring 940 points in three years on the varsity and being named as a senior by the Detroit Free Press to its All-State team. Charlie went on to play for Western Michigan University, where he studied business. During his junior year at Western, he developed mononucleosis, delaying his graduation by a semester. During that extra semester, he was set up on a blind date with a senior from Kalamazoo, Sally Shipley. Their first meeting was delayed when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas, but seven months later, they were married at the University's Chapel.

After living in Kalamazoo and Jackson early in their marriage, Chuck and Sally moved to Grand Haven in 1967, where they would reside for 39 years and raise their three children. In 2006, they purchased a home in The Villages but visited Grand Haven each summer.

Like his father and older brother, Chuck spent his career in the insurance industry, working first as a State Farm adjuster and then selling life insurance for Mass Mutual and auto, home and group health at the Vandermolen and Oakes agencies. He was a high school football referee for 30 years and had a love-hate relationship with the game of golf. Later in life, Chuck enjoyed flower gardening, music (including singing and playing the ukulele and baritone) and drawing. He adored his children and grandchildren.

Along with his wife of 61 years, Sally, Chuck is survived by his three children, Charles "Chip" (Charlotte) Rowe, Carrie Rowe, and Chad (Jaclyn) Rowe; his grandchildren, Anna, Chloe, Charles and Alex (Kelsey Gingrich); great-granddaughter, Juno; and his brothers, John Rowe and Robert Rowe.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Marilyn Gruenberg.

A celebration of Chuck's Life will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Klaassen Family Funeral Home, with Rev. Lary Jackson officiating. A private family interment will be held at Lake Forest Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Flushing Area Community Fund (bit.ly/flushing-fund) or the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation (ghacf.org).
