OTTAWA COUNTY — Ottawa County Community Mental Health has formally transitioned to operating as an independent entity — the Ottawa County Community Mental Health Authority — and unveiled a new organizational logo to mark the milestone.

The transformation was finalized following a majority vote by the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners to approve a CMH Authority Transition Agreement and accompanying promissory note.

The action follows approval from the CMH Board of Directors, establishing the framework for an independent operational structure designed to enhance local accountability, flexibility, and responsiveness.

To support service continuity, the county structure includes a financial agreement. For the first time in Michigan’s public mental health system, a county has extended a promissory note to secure cash flow for a CMH authority during potential payment delays from the state or regional entities. The measure is intended to maintain regular payments to staff, provider networks, and community partners.

Despite the shift in governance, agency leaders emphasized that core operations and service delivery will remain unchanged across Ottawa County. The organization's updated logo and visual identity were designed to honor its historic connection to the national community mental health movement founded in 1962.

"Our identity as a Community Mental Health Authority honors the work begun in 1962 while preparing us for the opportunities and responsibilities that lie ahead," said Dr. Michael Brashears, CEO of the authority. "This is a historic day for Ottawa County CMH. Our updated logo symbolizes continuity, connection, and growth, while reaffirming our commitment to keeping community at the center of community mental health."

The new branding will roll out immediately across digital platforms, service facilities, signage, and public communications, with a gradual transition across all sites in the coming weeks. Agency officials expect to release further details on the transition plan shortly.
