HOLLAND — A local construction company and North America’s largest roofing manufacturer have joined forces to provide a much-needed boost to a Holland community organization, ensuring two vital neighborhood structures have secure, new roofs.
Lake Michigan Construction & Roofing and GAF partnered to complete the restoration project for Heights of Hope, a Christian Community Development organization that supports families in the Holland Heights neighborhood, according to a news release.
The work covered both the Heights of Hope community center and a crucial affordable housing unit.

GAF donated the necessary roofing materials through its social impact initiative, GAF Community Matters, while Lake Michigan Construction & Roofing provided the labor and installation expertise.
The repaired roofs mean the organization can continue offering its wide range of services without interruption.
“Having a safe and reliable space means everything to our neighbors,” stated Barry Walburg, board president of Heights of Hope, in the press release. “This work allows us to keep providing after-school programs, leadership opportunities, and support for families in Holland Heights. It’s not just about a roof – it’s about creating a community where people can thrive.”
Heights of Hope, founded in 2003, is rooted in the Stratford Way/Abbey Court apartment neighborhood and focuses on Asset-Based Community Development, relying on the skills and talents of neighbors and community partners.
For Lake Michigan Construction & Roofing, a fourth-generation, family-owned company based in Holland, the project was a personal mission.
“As a fourth-generation, family-owned company, giving back to Holland is personal for us,” said Kassondra Mansfield of Lake Michigan Construction & Roofing. “Organizations like Heights of Hope are at the heart of this neighborhood, and it’s a privilege to use our skills to support their work.”
Jeff Terry, vice president of corporate social responsibility and sustainability at GAF, emphasized that the project is part of a larger, national effort.
“Through our GAF Community Matters initiative, we are committed to making a positive impact as neighbors and partners in communities across North America,” Terry said. “By combining resources and expertise with GAF-certified contractors like Lake Michigan Construction & Roofing, we can help strengthen neighborhoods and support the organizations that make them resilient.”
