ALLENDALE TWP. — Grand Valley State University has once again secured a premier spot among the region’s top higher education institutions, according to the latest U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings.

In the publication's 2027 ratings, GVSU ranked second overall among public universities in the Midwest. The university also earned the top spot among all Michigan public institutions classified as best regional universities.

GVSU President Philomena V. Mantella praised the recognition, pointing to the university’s emphasis on hands-on experience and regional partnerships.

“Grand Valley has embraced a role at the intersection of education and the public and private sectors,” Mantella said. “We are proud to place our learners in experiences that go beyond the classroom. Our students are not just receiving real-world experiences; they are making meaningful contributions to West Michigan’s community.”

In addition to its overall ranking, GVSU led all Michigan regional universities in affordability, earning the state's top position for best value among in-state students and placing highest among Michigan public institutions for overall regional value across the Midwest.

Academic-specific program honors included GVSU's undergraduate engineering program, which was named the top public non-doctorate engineering program in Michigan.

U.S. News & World Report determines its annual rankings using 17 metrics evaluating academic quality and outcome measures, including graduation rates, student retention, faculty-to-student ratios, and peer assessments.
