Week 9

The high school football regular season came to a dramatic close over the weekend as several local powerhouses wrapped up their schedules and set their sights on the postseason.

Highlighting the final week of play, Coopersville suffered its first defeat of the year in shocking fashion, getting shut out by Kenowa Hills in a 44-0 rout.

Meanwhile, Hudsonville dropped its third contest of the season in a loss to East Kentwood, and Grandville secured bragging rights by defeating Grand Haven in an intra-county rivalry matchup.

With the regular season in the books, the playoff field is officially set. Postseason action kicks off this weekend with several compelling opening-round matchups:

• Coopersville will look to bounce back as they host East Grand Rapids.
• Grandville carries its momentum into a matchup against Howell.
• Hudsonville — which jumped to No. 14 in MaxPreps’ Michigan Top 25 rankings, despite carrying three losses — aims to get back on track against Portage Central.
• Saugatuck hits the postseason gridiron against Springport.
• In a highly anticipated local battle, Spring Lake and Unity Christian will face off against one another.
• Zeeland West prepares for a tough test against Niles.
