GRAND HAVEN — A home in the 1000 block of Waverly in Grand Haven was destroyed by fire late Thursday, May 7. No one was injured.

Nichole Hudson, director of Grand Haven Public Safety, said that the initial call came in at approximately 10:09 p.m. Thursday.

Upon arrival, authorities from the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety  found the home completely engulfed in flames and battled the fire for several hours before it was under control.

The crews managed to contain the fire to a single structure, so neighboring homes were not damaged.

One resident was inside the house when the fire broke out, but managed to evacuate safely before emergency responders arrived.

Hudson said early Friday morning — nearly 5 a.m. — authorities were dispatched back to the same address for a rekindle. Authorities remained on the scene throughout the morning to conduct overhaul operations and ensure no remaining hotspots posed a threat.

The multi-agency response included assistance from Grand Haven Charter Township Fire Rescue, the Ferrysburg Fire Department, and the Spring Lake Fire Department. Life EMS Ambulance also provided support on-site during both the initial blaze and the subsequent rekindle.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation late Friday morning.
