HOLLAND — Herrick District Library in Holland is seeking actors, artists, bands, comedians, dancers, spoken word artists, storytellers and other performers for its new LEVITATE Arts Festival that will take place in February.

The library, which is partnering with Holland Museum and Park Theatre, will host the event 2-10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21.

LEVITATE is a "vibrant celebration of creative expression and local talent with three stages at the main library downtown, Park Theatre, and the Holland Armory," according to a news release.

"The library is honored to spotlight the incredible talents of our community through a festival that encourages and supports the life-giving creativity inside each of us,” HDL Assistant Director Natalie Williams said.

“The LEVITATE festival also highlights the important work our partner organizations do to encourage that creativity on a regular basis. Providing opportunities for people to connect and to create is core to what we do at the library and LEVITATE does just that," Williams said.

Additional organizations collaborating on the LEVITATE event include sponsor Amplify Impact and partner organizations Cultureworks, Holland Area Arts Council, I AM Academy, Out on the Lakeshore, Latin Americans United for Progress, Connect Public Speaking and DP Audio/Video.

The event will include several slots for youth performers in addition to traditional artists. Exhibits showcasing visual art, poetry or other non-performative artistic expressions will take place at the downtown Herrick District Library location, 300 S. River Ave., as well as the Holland Armory.

Food trucks will be available near the three stage locations.

The LEVITATE festival is part of HDL’s Lift Every Voice winter initiative, a season set aside to celebrate the power of voice — in song, in story, and in community.

“Championing self-expression and community voices is at the heart of what we do at the Park Theatre, so being part of the ‘Lift Every Voice’ program is a natural fit for our mission," said Robyn Schopp, Park Theatre board president. "We’re excited to help empower artists — especially new performers — and celebrate the voices that make our West Michigan community so vibrant.”

Performers are invited to apply by Wednesday, Feb. 4 at herrickdl.org/lev. Interested performers should be prepared to submit a demo, portfolio or art sample as part of the application.

HDL said the festival lineup will be announced around mid-February, or the week of the event.
