Motorcyclist critically injured in Coopersville after crash with bus
A 22-year-old Coopersville motorcyclist is fighting for his life following a collision with a bus in Wright Township on Friday morning.
COOPERSVILLE — A 22-year-old Coopersville motorcyclist is fighting for his life following a collision with a bus in Wright Township on Friday morning.
Emergency crews, including the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, Wright Tallmadge Fire Department and LIFE EMS, were dispatched to the intersection of Eighth Avenue and Roosevelt Street at approximately 10:20 a.m.
According to preliminary investigations, the 22-year-old was traveling southbound on Eighth Avenue on a 1999 Harley-Davidson. Authorities noted that traffic on Eighth Avenue has the right-of-way at that intersection.
At the same time, a 35-year-old Conklin man operating a large bus was heading westbound on Roosevelt Street. Witnesses told deputies that the bus initially stopped at the stop sign before attempting to cross Eighth Avenue, entering the path of the oncoming motorcycle.

The motorcyclist struck the bus, sustaining critical, life-threatening injuries. He was rushed to a Grand Rapids hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
The intersection was closed for several hours Friday for cleanup and scene reconstruction.
The crash remains under active investigation by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
