Ryan Lee Bassler

February 7, 1979-March 21, 2026

Ryan Lee Bassler, age 47, passed away on March 21, 2026, at his home in Hudsonville, Michigan.

Ryan had a warm and friendly personality and a big heart for others. He had a well-known and infectious laugh that could fill a room. He was an avid fan of football, especially his Michigan Wolverines! One of Ryan’s favorite pastimes was traveling to Canadian Lakes for a fishing tournament with his friend, Chris. He will be deeply missed.

Ryan will be greatly missed by his mother and stepfather, Mary (Ron) Berens; sisters Sara Bassler and Kelcy Berens; niece, Brynleigh; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Ryan was preceded in death by his brother, Eric Meeuwenberg, and grandparents Harold and Josephine Meeuwenberg.

A memorial service celebrating Ryan’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 27, 2026, at Cook Memorial Chapel (East Building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, with visitation from 11 a.m.-12:45 p.m. prior to the service.

Donald Deater Jr.

September 29, 1963-March 22, 2026

Donald Lee Deater Jr., age 62, of Holland, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, March 22, after a brief fight-week battle with cancer.

Don will be deeply missed by his beautiful and loving wife, Liz, of 23 years, and his son, Zach Deater, of Grand Rapids. He is also survived by his parents, Don and Pauline Deater; brother, David (Luanne) Deater; sister, Jody Verstrat (Dan Navarro); father-in-law, Gary Vander Hart; sisters in-law, Abby (David) Palmisano, Amy (Duane) Heeringa, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and his special uncle, Larry Dole, that Don rarely missed a Monday lunch date with.

Don loved the Lord and had a servant's heart. He was selfless and thoughtful, and he was ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He volunteered for various ministries at Heritage Reformed Congregation Church and led nursing home services. He also opened a small Christian bookstore, which was another avenue for reaching others for Christ's Kingdom, which he was very passionate about.

He was employed at Freightliner of Grand Rapids for 33 years. He always had a smile and kind words for his co-workers in the shop. As a sales rep, Don put on a lot of miles around West Michigan and made countless friends throughout the years.

Don enjoyed DIY projects with his family and spending time in his woodworking shop. He also loved taking trips to Glen Arbor with friends and going to Florida for winter getaways.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 27, at the Dykstra Funeral Home - Mulder Chapel, 188 W. 32nd St., Holland, with Pastor John Byl officiating. Relatives and friends may visit with family 4-7 p.m. Thursday, March 26, and 10 a.m.-10:45 a.m. on Friday prior to the service.

Kim Louise Myers

June 22, 1959-March 18, 2026

Kim L. Myers, age 66, of Grand Haven, Michigan, passed away quietly at home on March 18, 2026.

She was born June 22, 1959, raised in Grand Haven, and eventually graduated from Grand Haven High School, then Central Michigan University.

Kim enjoyed outdoor activities. Her favorite hobby was teaching young people to swim. She loved spending summer days at the beach and traveling to visit friends.

Kim is survived by her two sons, Matt Weaver of Colorado and Adam Hart of Colorado; her father, Robert Lintjer, of Grand Haven; and three siblings, nieces, and nephews.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Violet Caroline Sherman

September 16, 1999-March 22, 2026

Violet Caroline Sherman, age 26, passed into the loving arms of the Lord from the loving arms of her grandmother, Carolyn, and caregiver Julie on Sunday, March 22, 2026.

She was welcomed into heaven by her dear brothers, Carson and Willie. She will be remembered by her parents Angela (Dennis) Gort, Mark Sherman; maternal grandparents Carolyn and Carson Neifert, with whom she lived; paternal grandparents Ronald and Darlene Sherman; many aunts and uncles, including Alison and Eddie Schmidt, Tony and Leah Neifert, Kelly and Gary Leeuwenburg; special cousins Hayden and Bonnie Schmidt and Libby and Ella Neifert; special friend Braydon; many other relatives friends, teachers, and bus drivers; and caregivers Beatris and Diana.

Violet graduated from Grandville High School and had been a student at Pine Grove Learning Center. She was a member of Grandville United Methodist Church. She loved singing, holidays, planning parties, listening to described movies, MSU Spartans, making cards, drawing pictures, and swimming. She was an inspiration to all who knew and loved her.

A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2026, with visitation one hour prior to the service, at Grandville United Methodist Church, 3140 Wilson Ave. SW, Grandville, Michigan, with Pastor Mona Jocelyn officiating.
