Rounds of storms, flooding to impact Midwest. Get Bill Steffen's weekend forecast.

Just days after damaging winds and flooding affected much of the Midwest, additional rounds of severe thunderstorms and flooding are expected across portions of the Midwest and Northeast through this weekend.

Severe storms, flash flooding continue today

Significant severe weather has already occurred in parts of the Midwest this week, including a deadly derecho that packed 99-mph winds and left more than 800,000 without power.

Widespread flash flooding is expected from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, southeastward to Indianapolis. Recent heavy rainfall has left some areas especially susceptible to renewed flooding, particularly where thunderstorms repeatedly move over the same locations. Urban, low-lying, and poor-drainage areas will face the greatest flooding risk. Flooded roads and travel delays can occur, including along I-72 and I-80.

Additional storms to impact Midwest Saturday

Another cluster of thunderstorms is expected to develop on Saturday across portions of the Midwest and Ohio Valley, bringing the risk of damaging winds, flooding rainfall and disruptions to outdoor activities.

"Yet another round of damaging wind gusts and flooding rainfall can impact the Chicago area on Saturday before drier conditions return later in the weekend, giving hard-hit homeowners and business owners a break from the repeated rounds of storms earlier in the week," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Dan Pydynowski said.

Severe thunderstorm risk shifts east Sunday

The risk of severe thunderstorms will shift east into portions of Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia during the second half of the weekend. Localized damaging wind gusts between 55 and 65 mph and flash flooding will be the main hazards with the strongest thunderstorms. The greatest flooding risk will be in urban locations, including Pittsburgh.

• Saturday: Mostly cloudy and not as warm but humid with a couple of thunderstorms; watch for flash flooding, hail and localized damaging wind gusts. High: 76 degrees. In the evening, mostly cloudy; humid with a couple of showers and a heavy thunderstorm. Low: 68 degrees.
• Sunday: Breezy in the morning; mostly cloudy and humid with a thunderstorm in parts of the area. High: 79 degrees. In the evening, partly cloudy with a low of 61 degrees.
• Monday: Mostly sunny, pleasant and less humid. High: 77 degrees. In the evening, expect clear with a low of 61 degrees.
• Tuesday: Partly sunny and pleasant. High: 77 degrees. In the evening, expect cloudy and humid conditions with a low of 66 degrees.
