HOLLAND — As temperatures drop along the Lakeshore, local residents have a new, accessible way to clear out their closets while keeping their neighbors warm this winter.

Jeannie Cleaning, a regional residential cleaning service, is launching its 10th annual "Share the Warmth" coat drive on Oct. 1. Marking a major milestone for the effort, the drive is expanding directly into Holland for the first time following the company’s recent growth across Southwest Michigan.

Throughout the month of October, the company will collect new and gently used winter gear to benefit The Salvation Army, an organization that has outfitted thousands of area adults and children with cold-weather apparel over the past decade.

Local drop-offs, client pickup

Lakeshore residents can drop off donations Oct. 1-31 at Jeannie Cleaning’s local office:

  • Holland drop-off point: 675 E. 16th St., Ste. 200A. The collection box is located inside the building near the third-floor office.

Additional drop-off locations are operating at company offices in Portage and Bangor.

Current Jeannie Cleaning clients can also participate directly from home.

Residents can leave boxed or bagged items marked "Jeannie Cleaning" out for their assigned cleaning technician to pick up during regularly scheduled service calls throughout October.

High-need items

Organizers are requesting outdoor winter apparel for all ages, with an emphasis on children's sizes given how quickly kids outgrow seasonal gear. Requested items include:

  • Winter coats and snowpants
  • Boots
  • Hats, gloves, and mittens
  • Scarves

"The Share the Warmth Coat Drive was the very first charity initiative we participated in when Jeannie Cleaning began 10 years ago," said Jeannie Henderson, owner and CEO. "It’s the perfect way for our team and our clients to work together to help keep our neighbors warm."
