ALLENDALE TWP. — What began a year ago as an unsettling series of late-night window-peeping incidents near Grand Valley State University's off-campus housing has finally culminated in an arrest.

In late September 2025, Ottawa County Sheriff's deputies opened an investigation into reports of a suspicious man lurking near apartment complexes in the area of Pierce Street and 48th Avenue. Residents reported incidents of seeing a figure peering through windows during the quiet hours between midnight and 3 a.m.

At the time, detectives turned to the public for help, circulating surveillance photos in hopes of identifying the suspect.

The suspect's behavior grew increasingly brazen, escalating from window peeping to the secret surveillance and recording of unclothed female residents inside their homes, and eventually to unlawful home invasions.

The turning point came during the early morning hours of Monday, Sept. 14. At about 4:30 a.m., a female resident living on Becker Drive awoke to find an unknown man standing inside her bedroom while her roommates slept. The intruder fled before deputies arrived, but investigators believed the incident was linked to the year-long spree.

Leveraging investigative leads and using Flock Safety cameras, deputies were able to identify a suspect.

On Thursday, Sept. 17, the sheriff's office arrested a 34-year-old Grandville man in nearby Georgetown Township. He was taken into custody without incident and lodged at the Ottawa County Jail.

Law enforcement officials are withholding the suspect's identity pending formal arraignment and criminal charges. While an arrest has been made, the investigation remains open.
