Two hospitalized with serious injuries after head-on crash
A two-vehicle head-on collision left two people hospitalized with serious injuries Monday evening, shutting down a stretch of 72nd Avenue for an accident investigation.
BLENDON TWP. — A two-vehicle head-on collision left two people hospitalized with serious injuries Monday evening, shutting down a stretch of 72nd Avenue for an crash investigation.
First responders — including the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, Blendon Township Fire Department and Life EMS — were dispatched to the intersection of 72nd Avenue and Bauer Road at approximately 5:37 p.m. following reports of a crash.
According to preliminary findings by the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office, a GMC Acadia was traveling southbound on 72nd Avenue when the driver crossed the centerline. The SUV then collided head-on with a northbound Chevrolet Colorado that had just turned onto 72nd Avenue from Bauer Road.
The Acadia driver — a 41-year-old Greenwood, Indiana, man — was not injured.
The driver and a passenger — a 29-year-old Hudsonville woman and a 39-year-old Comstock Park woman — inside the Chevrolet Colorado suffered serious injuries. Both individuals were treated at the scene by paramedics before being transported to a local hospital.

Officials have not yet released the identities or current conditions of those involved.
Following the wreck, authorities closed 72nd Avenue between Taylor Street and Polk Street for several hours to allow accident reconstructionists to clear the scene and document evidence.
The cause of the crash remains under active investigation by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
