Two California residents were injured Monday afternoon after a single-vehicle crash on 72nd Avenue, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
BLENDON TWP. — Two California residents were injured Monday afternoon after a single-vehicle crash on 72nd Avenue, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
First responders were dispatched to the scene near Polk Street at approximately 2:19 p.m.
An initial investigation revealed that a green Subaru, driven by a 30-year-old man from Davie, Florida, was traveling southbound on 72nd Avenue when the vehicle crossed the median and crashed into the eastern ditch.
Two passengers riding in the back seat — a 25-year-old woman from Simi Valley, California, and a 30-year-old man from Azusa, California — were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision. Both suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported by Life EMS to Corewell Health Zeeland Hospital for treatment.

The driver and a third passenger, a 22-year-old woman from Las Vegas, Nevada, were buckled in and escaped the crash without injury.
Blendon Township Fire personnel assisted at the scene with traffic control and patient care. Authorities closed 72nd Avenue for roughly one hour to allow crews to clear the wreckage and document the scene.
The incident remains under investigation by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, Sergeant Jon Smoes confirmed in a news release.
