HOLLAND — A landmark summer tradition is returning to West Michigan this month as Latin Americans United for Progress hosts its 62nd annual Fiesta.

Running from July 15-19, the five-day festival will bring a dynamic lineup of live music, traditional dance, culinary offerings, and family-friendly activities to various venues across the city of Holland.

For more than six decades, Fiesta has served as a cultural cornerstone for the region, aiming to celebrate Latino heritage while bridging local families with vital community resources.

Midweek kickoff: Traditional flavors, street performances

The festivities begin Wednesday morning, July 15, at the Holland Civic Center Farmers Market. From 9:30-11:30 a.m., LAUP will host children’s activities and cultural showcases alongside an interactive "Build Your Own Esquite" station, where attendees can customize traditional Mexican street corn.

The celebration moves downtown on Thursday evening, July 16, as Fiesta integrates with the city's Street Performers Series at GDK Park. From 6:30-8:30 p.m., the park will feature:

  • Traditional Mexican dance by Grand Valley State University's Monarcas troupe.
  • Dynamic breakdancing by local crew Flow Like Water.
  • Live music from Latino vocalist Edwin Campos.
  • A live mural painting by H-Town Ink, which will serve as the festival's official photo backdrop for the remainder of the week.

On Friday night, July 17, the festival partners with Holland's Concert in the Park series at Kollen Park. Grupo Bengala will take the stage from 6:30-8:30 p.m. for a free, public performance along the waterfront. Local food trucks — including La Tehuanita, Yhomarys Paradise and Tarriko Taqueria — will be on-site.

Saturday's main event: Resource fair, talent show, Fiesta Baile

Saturday, July 18, serves as the heart of the festival, transforming the Holland Civic Center Place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. into a sprawling hub of culture and community services.

The day kicks off early at 8:30 a.m. with the opening of El Mercadito, an artisan market operating alongside the Holland Farmers Market featuring more than 16 local vendors.

Daytime highlights (11 a.m. – 4 p.m.):

  • Community Resource Fair: Nearly 40 local organizations will be present to connect families with regional services, alongside a Michigan Secretary of State Mobile Office to assist with document renewals.
  • The Fiesta Talent Show: Emceed by Yely Romero of Acceso VIP, local singers and dancers will compete for cash prizes, with preliminary rounds starting at noon and the grand finale at 2 p.m.
  • Interactive Art: Attendees can watch a live screen-printing process by H-Town Ink and customize commemorative Fiesta T-shirts, with proceeds benefiting LAUP's community programs.

As night falls, the Civic Center will host the traditional Fiesta Baile from 7 p.m.-1 a.m. This year’s musical lineup features La Furia del Ritmo, Chicago-based Grupo Ekilibriio, and Alpha Music. Advance tickets are available via Eventbrite for $20 ($25 at the door), with VIP tables of eight available for $350.

Sunday finale: Car show, World Cup final broadcast

The five-day celebration concludes Sunday, July 19, at the Holland Civic Center with an event blending automotive culture and international sports.

From 11 a.m.-4 p.m., a regional car show will feature local automotive enthusiasts competing for cash prizes and a "Best of Show" title. Registration opens the morning of the event at 9:30 a.m. with a $20 entry fee, and features live soundtrack support from Villanueva Tamborazo.

Simultaneously, the Civic Center’s Market Side area will host a live broadcast of the FIFA World Cup Final. To complement the match, First Tee and Tulip City United will host youth soccer clinics and games. Former Mexican professional soccer player Manuel Vidrio will also make a special guest appearance.

Throughout the weekend, an array of local food trucks — including Dolce Minicakes, Taquero Mucho GR LLC, Los Agaves Taquería, Outlaw Corn, and Shnack Trap — will be stationed at the Civic Center to provide diverse dining options.

Admission to all daytime festival events remains free to the public. For more information or to purchase tickets for the Fiesta Baile, visit the official event page on Eventbrite.
