Today will be dry — showers and a possible thundershower for tonight and Wednesday.
Today will be dry — showers and a possible thundershower for tonight and Wednesday … not an all-day rain, but the chance of measurable rain is high, (over 80%). Severe weather isn’t totally impossible, but is pretty unlikely.

Here’s the three-day total rainfall, which, in the case of West Michigan, will be Tuesday night and Wednesday. Grand Rapids will get an expected amount of about 0.3 inch, but, as with the case with summer convective showers and storms, rainfall will vary and you see a wide variation from “low end” to “high end” (0.07-1.40 inches).
The dark green on the map above is 0.5-1 inch.

Here’s the Severe Weather Outlook Map for Tuesday. There’s a narrow level 2, Slight Risk Area over Iowa and the Omaha area. The light green over Michigan is for a non-severe thundershower, mainly Tuesday night.
Also of note is the light green over southern California … a thundershower is not impossible in San Diego, Los Angeles and Tijuana.

On Wednesday, there’s a long marginal (level one) outlook area from the Texas Panhandle east to New York. The main threat is again isolated strong wind gusts.

Here are storm reports for Labor Day, Monday. There were only 43 reports in the U.S. Three tornadoes were reported in three different states. The tornado in Louisiana moved from NNE to SSW. You don’t see that too often.

High temperatures today will be mostly in the low 80s, with some mid-80s south of Grand Rapids and upper 70s near Lake Michigan. Winds will be southeast, switching to southwest off Lake Michigan in the lakeshore areas.
Clouds will be increasing during the afternoon and evening, but for most of us, rain will hold off until after sunset, which is around 8 p.m. now.

High temperatures Wednesday will be in the upper 70s to low 80s. It may be a touch on the humid side.
