82-year-old man struck by car while checking mail in roadway
An 82-year-old Hudsonville man was killed Thursday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle while checking his mail, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
GEORGETOWN TWP. — An 82-year-old Hudsonville man was killed Thursday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle while checking his mail, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
Just before 3 p.m. on May 7, the sheriff's deputies were dispatched to a car vs. pedestrian personal injury crash in the 2100 block of VanBuren Street in Georgetown Township.
Police said a 2021 Jeep Wrangler driven by a 16-year-old resident from Hudsonville was traveling westbound on Van Buren Street. An 82-year-old resident of Hudsonville was crossing Van Buren Street to a mailbox on the north side of the roadway when he was struck by the Jeep Wrangler. Life-saving measures were not successful, and the pedestrian suffered fatal injuries from the crash.

The 16-year-old driver of the Jeep and his 14-year-old passenger were not injured in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
The Georgetown Township Fire Department, City of Hudsonville Fire Department, and LIFE EMS ambulance assisted at the scene.
