Motorcyclist dies in late-night crash in Crockery Twp.
A late-night collision on State Road claimed the life of a Spring Lake motorcyclist early Sunday morning, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
CROCKERY TWP. — A late-night collision on State Road claimed the life of a Spring Lake motorcyclist early Sunday morning, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
At about 12:30 a.m. on May 3, the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office responded to State Road just west of 136th Avenue for a motorcycle-versus-vehicle crash.
A Harley Davidson motorcycle, driven by a 35-year-old Spring Lake man, was traveling westbound on State Road. A GMC pick-up, driven by a 39-year-old Kalamazoo man, was backing out of a private drive onto State Road to also go westbound.
Police said witnesses said, as the GMC backed out of the driveway, the motorcycle rider sped up and attempted to pass the GMC on the right side when it collided with the front corner of the truck.
The rider was thrown from the motorcycle after the crash and suffered significant injuries. Life-saving efforts were attempted on scene, but were unsuccessful and the man was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver of the GMC and two other occupants in the vehicle at the time of the crash were not injured.
This crash remains under investigation by the sheriff's office.
Crockery Township Fire and Life EMS assisted on the scene.
