Two hospitalized after vehicle rolls over, ejects occupant
Two young adults were hospitalized in serious condition following a rollover crash in Ottawa County that left a major roadway closed, authorities said.
ZEELAND TWP. — Two young adults were hospitalized in serious condition following a rollover crash in Ottawa County that left a major roadway closed, authorities said.
Deputies with the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office responded to the single-vehicle crash along 48th Avenue near Felch Street in Zeeland Township.
According to a preliminary investigation, a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta — occupied by a 20-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man — was traveling southbound on 48th Avenue when the driver ran off the right side of the road. The vehicle struck an embankment and rolled over multiple times.
At least one occupant was thrown from the car during the wreck. Investigators are working to determine whether the second occupant was also ejected or managed to climb out of the damaged vehicle independently.
Emergency responders transported both victims to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

Members of the Sheriff's Office Traffic Services unit remained at the scene to reconstruct the crash. As a result, 48th Avenue was temporarily shut down to traffic between Felch Street and Byron Road.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities urge anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
